How long did you date?

Met my freshman year in college. Dated 4.75 years, engaged for 4 months.

Dated for approx. 2 months
Engaged for about 6 months
All told, it was 11 months from the time we started getting to know each other to when we were married!

In our case, there was no question that we were right for each other, so there was no need to wait around. 🙂

I was wondering, how long did you know your spouse before you got engaged, and how long were you engaged before you were married?
My husband and I met at 15 years old, started dating at 17, got engaged at 20, and married at 22. We knew at 17 that we would marry each other (I think he probably knew at 15). I wanted to get married right after high school, and he wanted to wait until after college. We ended up marrying a little before he graduated from college. I had graduated a full year before he did, because I took extra classes during the summer. I wanted to hurry up with school and get married. 😃

Dated for 5 months, engaged for 18 months. Looking back on it, we realize now we should have gotten married even sooner, but his parents were convinced hubby wouldn’t finish college if we got married before he graduated. Even though he was 28 years old and financially independent from his parents.

Well, he wanted to get engaged after a year of dating, I wanted to wait. So, I ended up giving in after dating 3 years, we got married a year later. We have been married now for (wait, let me do the math) almost 8 years.

We were best friends for about 3 years before we started dating. Dated for less than a month before getting engaged (we already knew everything about each other! :D), and were married about 6 months later. We would have been married sooner, but we had to wait for my Petrine Privilege case to be decided. 😉 Married for 7 months and 3 days and expecting baby #1 in about 3 months! 😃

My wife and I met in the Air Force in 1984, started dating in Feb 1985 then I got out in May of 1986. Long distance romance after that (CA for her, NY for me). We were engaged in Oct 1986 and married in Aug 1987. Five months later she finally got out of the AF and moved to NY. So about 2.5 years of dating mostly because of the circumstances. Next month we will be married 23 years. 🙂

Dated for about three years (long-distance relationship). Married for almost 25 so far.

We’ve been married just about two years, my husband and I. I’m 24 and he’s 23. We met at 17 and 18, in June 2004, started dating in the September. Became engaged in May 2006. Were married in August 2008.

Regarding the length of courtship, it completely depends on the couple, as previous posters have said. Life generally dictates when, where, how.

The reason we were together for four years before getting married was because a) we couldn’t afford a wedding immediately and b) we were both still at university. We married two months after my husband graduated.

If I am honest, I knew I wanted to marry him a month after we met. I would’ve got married much sooner if we could’ve!

My sister is my age and is worried she’ll be left on the shelf. She thinks at 24, you haven’t time to have four-year-long courtships. I don’t know if she’s right, but maybe she means you know what you want more, at 24, than 18?

Hope that helps in some way.

I love having a reason to tell our fairy tale. 🙂

Dh and I met in Oct 2007, started dating Dec. 5, 2007, got engaged Dec. 5th 2008, and were married June 7th, 2009. So we dated for one year and were engaged for six months. 🙂 But we both knew within the first month we wanted to marry each other. We both had moments from God before hand (mine a dream of an event DH and I had after meeting, but the dream was in 2004, and his a description of me in every detail to a friend of his the night before meeting me…talk about double take. 😉 ) that confirmed this for us and we have now been married 1 year and 1 month and have a beautiful little 1 month old daughter. 😃

Like PP have said, averages don’t matter. Go to God for confirmation. In my mind, unless circumstances demand it or the Holy Spirit leads you to wait, once you know…you know. We waited because I was still living at home and I had a specific wedding date in mind (along with the dream, this came a long time ago) I think my story sounds a little far fetched, but it’s our love story and I love telling it…as you can see. 😉

We met when I was 15 & he was 20. He was a friend of my sister. We dated almost 5 years before marrying. Just celebrated 20 years & we have 7 kids.

wow, that’s a patient man 🙂 and you’re a lucky lady to have found him.

about 3 or 4 years before we got married. we will be married coming up october 9, 2010 married 39 years. longer then most of our friends or relatives God willing we will celebrate 50 years in 11 more years.

We dated for 3 years in college. We got engaged in January and were married that September. We’re coming up on 10 years and we have 4 children… so far;).

We dated for 2 weeks before getting engaged. We married two months later. 7 years and (almost) 4 kids later, we are still in love.

I am pretty sure we aren’t normal though. 🙂

We met when I was 15, he was 16. Ten months later he said he wanted to marry me. Formal proposal with ring and all was two years after that, when I had graduated high school. Engaged for one year, he had enlisted in the Marine Corps and we were trying to plan a wedding with him across the country from me. We’ve been married for ten years.

My husband and I dated for maybe 8 months and were engaged for 6. That doesn’t sound very long, but we worked in the same office, lived close to each other, and saw each other on a daily basis. We had lots of time to get to know each other. I also knew of him for maybe a year before we started dating. I only had a few conversations with him, but I did have time to observe how much kindness he showed to other people. That made me certain that I wasn’t simply swept off my feet.

We’ve been married for about 3 and a half years now, with one sweet toddler and another on the way!

Now that I think about it, my sister dated for about four months before her engagement.

Me and my fiance dated for 3 years before becoming engaged. We will be engaged for 6 months before getting married (our wedding is in 15 days actually).

I’m only 21 now, I think it would have been frowned upon if i married my highschool boyfriend after only a year or something like that.

Dated 2 months
Engaged for 9 months
married 4 years so far.😃
WHen you know you know… I could never be engaged for years unless I was super young. We were both 24/25 when we got married.

Dated 3 years, engaged 2 years, married for 2 years come Monday!!!

This may seem long, but I was only 17 (he was nineteen) when we met, much to my parents dismay :p, and then we had a long distance relationship for all but the summer months while we were both in college, much to my parents relief :D.
