How long did you guys wait to get married, after meeting your loved one?

Met in '93, didn’t even consider dating at the time. Started “dating” (it was a long-distance relationship) in August of '96, engaged March of '97, married August of '97.

I voted 7 years, and here’s the breakdown:

Met in 1996, at age 15. Started dating 2 years later, during our senior year of high school.

Married in 2003, at age 22, after a 2 year engagement.

The reasons we waited?

My husband wanted us to finish earning our bachelor’s degrees before marrying. I wanted to wait until I was baptized, so we could have a Nuptial Mass and I could receive Our Lord with him (I became Catholic in 2001).

I would’ve loved to marry him sooner, but it was a good lesson in patience for me. 😃

My DH and I got married exactly 4 years to the day from our first date. 🙂 We just celebrated 14 years together and 10 years as husband and wife. 👍

I didn’t answer the poll since we met in May of '93 and got married in February '94.
We both had kids (he had 4 and I had 3) and they actually got us together. (then, being teenagers, ended up fighting constantly) But we felt a sense of urgency about getting our lives on an even keel so got married sooner rather than later. We’ve had a few ‘moments’ but on the whole are happy.

We have adopted 3 more and are in the process of adopting the last 2 (I think) to make an even dozen (depends, we do foster care and one of the moms is prego again, if they take that baby, it’s mine, for a baker’s dozen!)

Wow—sorry to everybody who married in less than a year! I didn’t realize how many did—what blessings, though, that you just “knew” 🙂 That’s why I asked how long, 'cause I was curious to see the reasonings and stuff–helps others who may be discerning timing of things for themselves 🙂
