wow. This has turned into a rather lengthy discussion. I thank you all for your help. Thanks to brother David. I am happy and pleased to wait as long as possible. No amount of time that I could wait would be enough for what vocation He would have for me. We always think we have waited long enough when In actuality, we should be pleased to wait our entire life if we had to, because we are at that level of love for Christ. Thanks again. God Bless

You said that you are joining our California province of the Friars Minor Capuchin. Did the vocation director of the Minister say whether the aspirancy is residential or do you live at home?

In the Franciscans of Life the aspirancy is residential. The aspirants live in our house. But we have four tiers. The aspirants can live in any of our houses. The postulants live at the at the house of formation. The novices live at the Motherhouse. The simple professed live at a theologate. You move out when you make solemn vows. But during the year, the aspirants go to school to get their pre-theology courses and they do volunteer work in different ministries, as long as they are not within the middle class or higher. We have one middle class ministry as a favor to the bishop, but that has a five-year contract. We agreed to cover the parish, but the bishop must find staff before the end of the five-years. Our constitutions forbid serving the middle class. We follow the same constitutions as the Franciscans of the Renewal.

I don’t know if the Capuchin Franciscan constitution has a residential or external aspirancy. If it’s residential, you may be able to go to school and get involved in ministry. I know that our Capuchin Franciscan Friars in the California Province have many parishes. There must be a lot to choose from. Since there are many things happening in parishes.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

It’s not really official right now so it would be more or less at home. I visit three days a week, helping out as much as possible. That is kind of the extent of the aspirancy as of right now. It is good though because it has given me a moment to step back and think about everything. I have also thought about Benedictine and the C.F.R’s. You never know what God would have and in the next couple of years I would like to be open to that. God Bless.
