Might be like chicken pox or measles, might not.
I don’t know much about Measles beyond it being able to undo immunity cities that people had to other diseases. But Chicken Pox (AKA “Herpes/Varicella- Zoster”) never goes away! If it is like that then the virus may be with humanity for a long time.

There’s a chicken pox vaccine that prevents shingles. Shingles is a secondary chicken pox infection.

My mom had shingles a number of years ago, and gave it to my sister in the form of chicken pox.

I never had chicken pox, and was vaccinated for it before having children. I shouldn’t be able to contract shingles.

Actually, the shingles shot is a separate shot from the chicken pox shot. I was told that people who have had the chicken pox shot can get shingles. And Shingles, unlike chicken pox, reoccurs

I’ll ask my doctor. I was I believe 30 when I got the vaccine. I’ll see what he recommends.

Mine gave me the shingles shots after I turned 60. I don’t know if the timing is a medical recommendation or an insurance company recommendation.

I’ve never had a shingles outbreak. I watched my mom and my brother get them (more than once) and I consider myself extremely lucky.

There are two versions now of the shingles vaccine. The most recent one is considered more effective than the earlier one. It is given in two doses about a month apart. Warning…some insurace companies will pay for the first dose but not the second…which makes no sense other than they don’t want to pay for the recommended two doses.

I had shingles…it is not fun in any way shape or form! I received the first shingles vaccine soon after it became available and also the second two dose vaccine. I don’t ever want to get shingles again! Even the shots weren’t fun. They were painful and caused swelling and hot skin at the injection site…still worth it!

Most shingles last 20-30 years, if they are good quality, architectural shingles.

I had shingles too, but thanks to my quick-thinking daughter in law / physician, I got on an anti-viral right away and recovered completely in about 2 weeks, with no complications. I could have been left with permanent neuropathy.

My case was when I was in my late 30’s and antivirals weren’t available. Mine took about three weeks to resolve and I, too was lucky with no lasting side effects.

I was working at our hospital lab and started having a tingling sensation at the nape of my neck…went into the pathologists office as I could feel a raised area. He looked at it, said Shingles! I was immediately sent home and went to my family doctor later that day…so mine was quickly diagnosed…there just wasn’t much they could do except put me on pain pills.

Edit to add…over the next few days, the rash spread down my right side as my doctor predicted it would. Uggg, it’s awful.

My mother had it reoccur more than once. and always in the same spots. She was thrilled when the anti-virals came along.
