Our Eucharistic minister is just an ordinary member of the congregation, and an all around nice guy. But other than distributing Holy Communion he is a common parishioner. 75 communicants would be average for us.

I am not a fan of EMHC – I believe that it blurs the distinction between the ordained and the laity (Whose hands are not anointed to handle the Sacred Species).

disclaimer

I am aware of these facts :
  1. EMHC are allowed
  2. EMHC are generally good people who mean well
🙂

Neither are the hands of priests. They are consecrated for the purpose of confecting the Eucharist, not for the purpose of handling it.

As far as I’m aware, all Eastern Catholic and Orthodox baptised hands are anointed and blessed. Not specifically for handling Communion but they are anointed for God’s work.
