My father passed away at 8:22 yesterday morning and I wonder if he is still with Jesus. Any thoughts?

There’s no “still” in Heaven. When you enter Eternity, you become pneumatikon soma, and in the timeless embrace of our LORD.

Time is the effect of the entropy in our naturalbodies. When the life leaves the body, your personal time stops. You enter Eternity at once.

God Bless and comfort you in your loss, ICXC NIKA.

You have my heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your father. I can only imagine that the particular judgment is instantaneous, but the time he will spend with Jesus is eternal. Be happy for him, even in your sorrow.

Catechism of the Catholic Church:
I. THE PARTICULAR JUDGMENT
1021 Death puts an end to human life as the time open to either accepting or rejecting the divine grace manifested in Christ.592 The New Testament speaks of judgment primarily in its aspect of the final encounter with Christ in his second coming, but also repeatedly affirms that each will be rewarded immediately after death in accordance with his works and faith. The parable of the poor man Lazarus and the words of Christ on the cross to the good thief, as well as other New Testament texts speak of a final destiny of the soul–a destiny which can be different for some and for others.593
1022 Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heaven-through a purification594 or immediately,595 – or immediate and everlasting damnation.596

I’m very sorry for your loss. I will pray for you and for your Father. Have you contacted a Priest asking if he’ll do a Mass for your father’s soul?

As for time, there isn’t time. God is outside of time. It’s impossible for us to comprehend, but that is why He is known as the Almighty and we’re not. But, in answer to your question, Tim Staples said the first judgment isn’t about what you did. Meaning, God doesn’t go through your entire life and then make a final decision. He says you’re in or out, and that’s that. However, at the end of time, all the souls (Yes, including the ones from Hell) are taken before God, and he shows each and every one of our sins and how they affected people, and how their lives would’ve went if you hadn’t committed the sin. It makes you want to stop sinning, doesn’t it?

Pray the Saint Gertrude prayer everyday for your father’s soul and for all the souls in purgatory. One thousand souls in Purgatory are released if this is recited by one who is not in Mortal Sin. Here is the prayer if you don’t know it: “Eternal Father, I offer thee the most precious blood of they divine son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Amen.” Later a few more words were added which I don’t remember. It’s better to look up the Prayer.

I,ve been told that after you died, and the priest Blesses you,in Church, than the Body is
final free to go to God. Than I also heard that when you died, that the Soul go to Jesus,
and he tells him his Faith, but I also heard, that at the end times, is when Jesus will
say welcome to my Fathers House, or begone from me.

:: Hugs:: I will be praying for your dad’s soul.

But to answer your question, time isn’t measured the same way for the souls of the departed as it is with us, so he could very well be in heaven or purgatory now. Didn’t one of the saints (or maybe it was in the Psalms) that for God “a day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as a day”? So I guess for God and the souls of the departed, earth time really is a “wibbly, wobbley ball of timey-wimey…stuff”, to quote the Tenth Doctor on BBC’s “Doctor Who”.

Thank you to each and everyone of you for the support and information. It was very consoling and I am not just saying that. My father’s burial had been delayed and he will be buried tomorrow on the Feast Day of Saint John of the Cross. May God bless you all.

Réquiem æternam dona ei,

Requiéscat in pace.

Anima ejus, et ánimæ ómnium fidélium defunctórum, per misericórdiam Dei requiéscant in pace. Amen.

If a person dies in a state of mortal sin they immediately go to Hell.
If a person dies in a state of grace they are immediately saved (either straight to Heaven or Purgatory first).

Only God knows who is actually saved or damned.

there is no “time” after death, we are in eternity when we confront Jesus in the particular judgment.

the body does not go to God at the moment of earthly death, it goes in the ground, is burned, or slowly decomposes. The soul is before Christ at the moment of death in the particular judgment, is given all knowledge to choose eternity with God or without and either immediately enters heaven. is purified if there is still attachment to sin and evil inclinations to be cleansed away, or leaps into hell, The body will be resurrected at the end of time to be reunited with the soul for the general judgment and will then therefore also spend eternity in the state the soul has already chosen.

We pray for the repose of the soul of OP’s loved on because those prayers are efficacious at the moment of death, even while we remain in time offering them.
