I’ve been to an Easter vigil EF midnight Mass which was well over three hours. How long generally is the Christmas Eve midnight EF high Mass?
Thanks

It is the same length as any other High Mass, made longer only by the numbers present for communion, and the possibility of a loquacious preacher. There are no added ceremonies, as there are for the Easter Vigil.

That said, there may be carols before the Mass, and the placement of the Christ Child in the manger immediately after Mass.

Because it is very crowded, the church fills up from about 2230hrs. Confessions may still be being heard…the priest will have spent quite some time confessing already. Carols and rosary are from 2300hrs where I live and then the Mass commences at 2400hrs. Always home by 0200hrs or sometimes go and have a post Mass noshup with friends before falling into bed. In the past I would firstly peel about a kilogram of prawns before bed. Do yourself a favour and go to Midnight Mass at least once in your life…it is stunningly beautiful!

I’ve been to OF midnight masses before but couldn’t find one in my immediate area, and I figured there are only so many chances to attend a Christmas Eve midnight Mass during my brief time allotted on this planet so I drove a bit to a EF midnight Mass last night. I agree it was beautiful and is something I’ll cherish till I meet my maker and perhaps beyond. God willing it’s something I’ll do again. It was full but not packed and lasted about 90 minutes.
