How long must one fast from alcohol before receiving Communion?

My mother told me that she learned that you must fast from all food and drink one hour before receiving the Eucharist, except for alcoholic beverages from which you must fast three hours. Is she correct about fasting three hours from alcohol before receiving the Eucharist?
 
The Church makes no such distinction. The rule is that one must abstain for one hour from food and drink before receiving Communion. The only exceptions to this are for water and medicine.
