I will be confirmed in the Church April 11th, and Lord willing sometime this year I will go visit the Monastery i’m interested in. I’ve asked around a few times and got some different answers, but my question is how long do recent converts have to wait to enter? I’ve heard anywhere from 1-3 years. I know it will happen when the Lord says it’s time. Thank you and God Bless 🙂 .

I’ve been told canon law requires 2 years. But I’ve also been told 3years by some orders. Whether it’s 2 years or 3 years I think it’s a good policy because it gives us time to deepen our faith. May God bless you.

1-3 years would be usual. I believe it is at least 2 years to be considered for seminary after an adult has been baptized. The work of this period of time is to reflect on the meaning of the newly conferred sacraments and one’s life in the Church and strengthening the new relationship with Jesus Christ. Until that work has progressed it is unwise to take up a new challenge, and the conversion must be tested and strengthened, that is the meaning of the mystagogy period, which should be no less than a year.

Thank you both for the replies 🙂 , I know the Lord will give me patience in waiting. His time is always the perfect time.

God Bless you all always.

How long does one need to wait after confirmation to be considered for seminary or religious life?

I ask because I was baptized protestant when I was 11, but will be confirmed later this year in the Catholic Church. But before I took the leap, as it were, to become Catholic, I had been self-catechising (if that’s the right word) for several years. So while I know I have a lot still to learn, I think I may be a little further along than others who will be officially joining the Church with me.

After I finally made the decision to join the Church, my personal relationship with God has grown to the point where I strongly feel He is calling me to serve as a priest or Benedictine monk (or both).

I hope I wouldn’t have to wait 1-3 years, and I’m anxious to be confirmed so that I can take the next step in my vocation. But I want only what God wants for my life, so if I have to wait then I guess I will 🙂

wow it’s nice to know that there are others in the same position as me 🙂 I’m (hopefully!) entering the Church this year, and often I wonder whether or not I’m called to religious life… I heard that it’s required to wait 2-3 years, and that seems to me like a good idea, because that’s an opportunity to grow and spend some time just being Catholic and receiving the Sacraments… 😃

Didn’t Father Corapi (EWTN) become a Catholic and enter Seminary very soon thereafter? Remember his story about confessing literally every sin ever known to man and then saying to the priest hearing his confession “By the way Father, I am called to be a priest”. It gave me chills.
The way God works!

I am quite sure that father Corapi was baptized as a Catholic when he was a newborn.

Oh, I see. It was the other kind of conversion story. TY.
You might still be close to what happened. He was away from the Church for a very long period of time and according to his own statements he was quite a sinner.

dicalced Carmelites are my favorite order. I used to think becoming a Carmelite Monk would be so cool. You are in my prayers. Don’t stop listening when things get in the way. They are bound to because Satan is out to ruin it for you. You should be deep in prayer and attend daily mass and frequent confession.

Prayers for you.

Thank you very much for your prayers. I know that nothing can take me away from Jesus, and I won’t let anything take Him away from me. He will always guide me, I will continue to trust in Him. He will help me to be patient and to persevere. I will remain faithful just as He always does.

I will keep you in my prayers also. God Bless you. May the Lord always guide you in His ways, and lead you to Eternal Life.

I’m also a convert. It’s my third year now. I’m still waiting. The second problem is my age. I’m not twenty yet. So I’ve got to wait for at least 5 years until I go to the convent I’m interested in. 😊 But I take this time as a blessing: to get a job, to find new Orders, etc.

Be patient. The first year is Heaven, the second is quite different, and the third one is the “No-year” (you say “no” to God quite often). Rebellious. I’m experiencing that.
