How long will it take for non-Catholics to finally accept Catholicism?

No. The Ten Commandments remain in force, and so does the Sermon on the Mount. To disobey these, or to teach others to disobey them, is to forfeit one’s salvation.

However, they are free to make rules for us on matters relating to discipline in the Church. 🙂
If you believe the 10 commandments “are in force” you’d better take down the statues and stop doing any work on saturday.

Hello RobGentner

my quote
We will see what will happen in the next 30+ years when it comes to what Mass wins out. It will be interesting to watch.

your remark
Interesting, but not important!

my statement
I would still find it interesting to watch. I still think that the Tridentine Mass wins out over yours. Time is on the Tradionalists side. All they need is time.

my quote
Lets see how foolish they are in the years to come. Remember Martin Luther was one man and look what happen there.

Your quote
Yes, he made the “true church” reform and while doing thay made many lose their way to God! I don’t think that was his plan. I believe he truely Love God! However his actions made the baby (Jesus) be thrown away with the wash water.Poor Guy, I would think he regretted that in his heart. God was using him to reform the church and he started another religion! SIGH!

The next statement say more what I want to cover.

My statement
I feel that your jugement on my salvation is wrong and smell of Father Leonard Feeney said extra Ecclesiam nulla salus (“outside The Church there is no salvation”) Are you one of them?? He said that that all non-Catholics therefore will not be saved. He was excommunicated in 1953.

Your statement
You can be saved “by the grace” oif the RCC if you actually don’t “know” the RCC is the true church. I pray that that is the case. But since you come to us rather that sites for your faith I have my doubts although I can not judge you. I pray for you and your eternal soul as I do everyone elses. That will be the only way any of us will get to heaven in my humble opinion! I believe “in Faith” what my church teaches so I stay in communication with my church. If I have a question of Faith like “Would it be wrong for me to switch faiths because I don;'t like the new mass” I would ask my pastor, IF he said “Yes it would” I would accept that and continue in the true church. It is that simple, My persona; desires are not always God’s. My personal ideas are only my ideas, and “who” put them in my mind? .

My statement
You sound some what like a Feeneyite am I right? I’m saved by the grace of GOD, not some Roman Catholic Bishop. I don’t believe in your Novus Ordo religion. If I told you what I think of the Novus Ordo I would have to hold my nose. Catholic Answers is to PC for its religion. If your pastor said that Jazz Mass were ok, would you aIright that? I see things like Jazz Mass as a way to mock GOD. It make religion look cheap.

My statement
RCC is not long a part of my life and I don’t any future there for me. I will not convert and that is that.

Your statement
It is a part of your life so long as you come here. You may not “revert” (That is what it is called, you already converted!) And hopefully through the “graces” of the RCC you will be saved!

My statement
I would like to correct you on what you said here. I was a Traditionalists’ who rejected the Novus Ordo and never accepted at any time. I take that as insult that you would call me a Novus Ordo Catholic. The word “revert” does not fit. If I went back to the Traditionalist’s Catholic Church I would be a “revert”. If I were to go to your Church I would be a convert. You ask why I would say that??? I don’t see your Church as Catholic. Just another branch of Protestant religion.

My statement
Let me remind every here that it was not my Church that dump Divine Liturgy. It was the RRC that dumped it Mass. I feel that the Catholic Church don’t the Mass as highly as you may think.

Your statement
And that small “t” tradition is so important that you turn your back on your Lord and Savior? You deny Him in the Euchurist? SIGH! OK…

My statement
I stand by my words

My statement
It is said that the way they worship is how they will believe. If the Mass is lacking and so will the faith be lacking.

Your statement
The Mass has Jesus in the bread and wine, what more would anyone want or need? He is the reason for the Mass. The Mass isn’t the important thing. Without Jesus it is just a prayer service! No matter what language it is said in!

Your remarks would agree with my statement when I talk about what was lacking in faith.

Your statement
Are you coming here to have Jesus’ true followers 'convert" for something that is unimportant to them? Try offering cruises and other entisements. Many people who call themselves Catholic might follow. I will choice to stay with the 2000 year old correct church.

My statement
I’m here to tell you the truth. You could say that I old Marley Ghost in the story of a Christmas Carol and I walk the halls of this chatroom. If you Novus Ordo are not going to admit the truth, then it is left to me to be the Ghost here remind you of your passed history.

Have a good day.

Not really Saturday, but God’s seventh day - Friday sunset to Saturday sunset. And not only that, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image… Thou shalt not bow down unto it…”

Like that would be different than any other day …

**Jesus came and attempted to teach certain religious people that He fulfilled the old law. And He explained to them two commandments which if they were followed would cover the “14” commandments (from the version of the commandments followed by Jewish,Catholic, and Luthern religions.) Shocker guys, they were not numbered! That only happend a few hundred years ago! There are also two sets read them both! Why are there 14 and why two different versions? God had a reason. The RCC knows does anyone else “without” peeking:) ? When catholics find this out we don’t see a problem because we don’t believe in “Solo Scriptura”. That really is a protestant thing! Makes remaining a protestant impossible I think unless you don’t mind conflicting information being told to you.

Some things that bother me as a real practical Catholic. I would like answered:
  1. Is a picture of your parents a graven image?
  2. Are art pieces in your home idols?
  3. If you kiss your wife to show affection to her is that worship?
If I were to said YES to all three of the above for you, would that make it true?
If I asked you to explain why I was wrong and you did but I disregarded your responses would that make it true? No?
Then why do you do the same thing to us? This is why catholics don’t care about or sometimes can’t understand protestant arguments. They are not based on “our beliefs or practices.” They are based only on “your beliefs of our true beliefs” 😃 That is also why even some protestants will defend our beliefs because their version of the Truth is more closely based on our belief system.

For the OP -Non-catholics might never accept Jesus’ true teachings. Rather then practicing what Jesus taught, they rather argue about things that even their versions of His words in their bibles tell them Jesus said were not important. He told them exactly what His Father expected. The church leaders of His time, also didn’t listen to Him and they had Him crucified.

The Catholic church worships the Crusified Christ. By His death He obtained our eternal life back for us once again. Some protestants don’teven + believe that! They believe we were all saved or not when God originally formed the earth. They decide for themself what our God does or doesn’t do. How precious is that? :whacky: The RCC does believe in predesignation but not so as to limit God and His mercy and His right as God to decide things rather then us. Some protestants say We are saved so God must allow us to obtain eternal life! The do not think they any free will to refuse God and His mercy. Yet they refuse His Church. He knew that would happen and prepared a “special” place just for that reason. I don’t know if I am exactly correct on what I just said. I actually believe, by Faith, exactly what My church says I must believe in order to be saved. If I want to know something I ask my Church. It is Jesus’ true church with no reason to try and have me joined the unsaved for eternality.

I have asked a question that no protestant can ever answer. Even to themselves.

If I was a protestant and was asked this question and truthfully prayed on it while trying to obtain an answer I would be forced to become a Catholic.

The question: If Jesus is God, and He established His Church here on earth. and He gave that church authority over his followers. Why would He later feel a need to form other churches?

The only answer that 'works" is He wouldn’t.
Some may try to say because the original one was corrupt and going astray. Was it? Couldn’t Jesus, who we all agree is God have changed that? He is God!
Why would He want to start another church and another, and so on and so forth? He only neds One True Holy and Apostotic Church to Follow His teachings. Why have more?
The only logical answer is that if Jesus established a Church here on earth, He as God, could keep it Faithful to the truths that would insure the believing members obtained eternal life. Since we all agree that He founded His Church and Is the Head of that Church .How can you claim that the original church isn’t God’s True Church and that one of the dozens made much later were the true church. When all these other churches started their false denominations they “drafted” Jesus to be the leader of their churches.
He is God, we don’t tell Him what to do, He is God.
Why would He “volunteer” to lead another church against His own True church. Easy answewr He wouldn’t!
He had already established His Church here on earth. He did not need any other churches. He said thatwhen two or more of believers were gathered together in His name He would be there. How can anyone not from his orignal churchthat these things were said to claim to be His followers and Have Him there?

If some company invited their employees to a banquet. How could members of another company selling a simular product think they were invited to attend the banquet? They couldn’t!
If you were throwing a dinner party for your family, how could I tell my family they could go over and eat? I couldn’t.

May our lord and savior bless and protect us all during our travels towards eternity! :signofcross: **

Hi Rob, May I know what you mean by “fulfilled the old law”? And did the 2 commandments replace the “14”, thus voiding the old law? Or do I understand you to mean that with these 2 laws, we can pick and choose which ones from the “14” it would cover (but of course, only the RCC can do the picking)?

Laura, All are welcome? Did you misunderstand what I wrote? I meant that what you were saying was “nice to hear”. I am a born again Catholic. Solo_Scriputra (His name should help yopu figure out he isn’t Catholic 😃 )i I am still trying to figure out, but he is a very nice guy! You are more than welcome to join in on any conversation you want. 👍 Rather than a big debate it is more like a “getting to know you” event! He has a lot of beliefs that seem Catholic, but then he throws a loop! 😛

**Rob, Thank you so much for clarifying. I guess I did misunderstand and thought I was interrupting a hot debate. I love it. I am not as knowledgeable on scripture as you guys are but be sure I’m going to read this entire thread to see what it’s all about. I love what I’ve read so far and it’s very interesting. I’m glad to see you’re all doing it in good fun and having a good time while sharing all the doctrines and belief’s of one another’s faith. Thanks so much for your warm welcome and I’ll be keeping an eye on this ongoing discussion.

For you Rob 👍 For my non-Catholic friends :signofcross: :bible1:

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).
WILL BE… not ARE…
You would like to add “and a member of my particular church” – well, I’ll stick with Paul (and leave you guys with your illusions of grandeur). 🙂
we don’t have to add that… it only stands to reason that someone who truly loves Jesus will want to be a member of his Church.

Rob, I tried looking for the posts that you said could answer my questions but couldn’t find it, so I’m not commenting about that issue yet.
On the above, I can’t understand what you’re trying to bring out with that line of reasoning. As far as I’m concerned (I’m not Protestant by the way), if someone tells me my belief is wrong I would ask him why he thinks so. If he is kind enough to tell me why, I would examine his reasons and make a decision based on my findings –not on what he says. Now, I would be happy to get as many contrary opinions as possible because then if I can be convinced from my examination of the issues that my beliefs are right, then my faith would be strengthened. The more my beliefs are scrutinized for errors by others, the more I’d have the chance to study and examine the things I believe in. And I’m not into proselytizing. I only share what I know and leave it at that because I believe that unless God calls us, we will never know the truth.

Now, about graven images, I do not want to go into that – unless of course somebody wants to – because all one needs to do is read the commandment and decide for himself (or consult his church) how it should be understood. All I can say is that we have to be honest with ourselves when studying God’s Word because God cannot be fooled.

For those Catholics who have not seen the commandment (it is omitted from the RCC’s 10 Commandments), here’s the full text:
**
“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:
for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments” (Exo. 20:4-6).**

**
I should not answer this because I am not a Protestant. This question assumes the RCC to be the church Jesus established. I do not believe that is so. Protestants do, and this question is rightly directed to them. However, I’ll still try to answer the question under the given assumption that the RCC was the church Jesus established.

Jesus did not feel a need to form other churches. He only has one church and it never died out, as He promised. Those that followed His commandments continued to be with His Church, no matter how few in number they are. Those that rejected His laws He spewed out from His Church. God is the one who decides who belongs to His Church, not man. Man cannot join God’s church. God puts man in His church. The Vatican or any church building is not the church. God’s people are the church. They do not need a building to become a church. They are THE church – those that follow Him and keep His commandments. God did not say His church will be large in number. Jesus tells His church: “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). Would God’s church be deceived by Satan? Not likely. But God says that, “the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world” (Rev. 12:9). The vast majority are deceived by Satan. The very few – God’s “little flock” – are free from Satan’s deception. This could explain why the RCC now could not be God’s church even if it was the church Jesus established in the beginning.

By fulfilled does not mean that they were abrogated, but rather, they became re-oriented into the direction of Christ incarnate, Christ sacrificed, and Christ risen from the dead.

So, because of Christ risen from the dead, the Sabbath now has been transformed into Resurrection Day. God is no longer resting; God, who became a man who is now risen from the dead, is once again active in the world, so instead of celebrating the day of His rest, we celebrate the day of His resurrection - not because God was dead and then came back to life, but because Jesus, God as man, rose from the dead, and in so doing, blew the locks off of the gates of Heaven (since as God, He could not go anywhere except Heaven, and in His humanity, had therefore to make it possible for His own humanity, and thus, all of humanity, to be able to go to Heaven. 🙂

Circumcision became transformed into Baptism; the Passover became the Holy Mass, and so on and so forth. 🙂

This is a matter of objective historical record; there shouldn’t really be any kind of debate on this, because all serious historians agree that the off-shoot Jewish organization established by a man in Galilee named Yeshua, who was the son of a carpenter (which is mispronounced “Jesus” by his modern day English-speaking devotees) can be traced forward to the modern age through the Catholic Church. The claim of the Pope to be the successor of St. Peter, who was a close follower of Jesus, has been proven to be objectively true. If one believes the Bible (which for whatever reason is not really included as part of the historical record), then one may say, based on various passages, including Matthew 16:18-19 and John 21:15-19, that the claim of Peter to have been head of the Early Church is true, which means that (barring any evidence that the Papacy ever moved somewhere else without later returning to Rome) that the Bishop of Rome is the current head of the Church that Christ established.

You don’t have to be a protestant to disagree with the assertion that Peter was the head of the Church. The Orthodox will take issue with that as well. The intial question “If Jesus is God, and He established His Church here on earth. and He gave that church authority over his followers. Why would He later feel a need to form other churches?” assumes what has yet to be proven: That Jesus established the papacy to rule the whole Church and that cannot be proven from Scipture or Early Church tradition.

Many Fathers did not interpret Peter to be the Rock. Also Peter’s threefold affirmation of love made amends for his threefold denial. Neither of these citation is convincing to prove the claims of th emodern papacy. Roman catholics make a lot of assertions of jump to a lot of prematutre conclusions. You are one of them. The Bible doesn’t say the bishop of Rome is the infallible ruler of the whole Church. You just laboriously interpret it that way. The Fathers of the Church didn’t see it that way. The Orthodox members of CAF have very compentently debated this issue ad nauseum. So there is no need to repeat it here. Just agree to disagree.

Mailman, jmcrae, posted his answers to your questions to me. He is very wise, but he assumes that you really do want to learn. I ,on the other hand, do not believe such. His answers are correct!

If I may be so bold jmcrae, Might I comment on your responses? **

**I can’t wait to see what mailman askes you from those remarks.😃 You kind of limited God by trying to explain, in human terms, the truth (“He no longer rested”) **

Circumcision became transformed into Baptism;
Can I get an “Thank God” from the guys for that decision! 👍

the Passover became the Holy Mass, and so on and so forth.

**jmcrae, He will never let that one pass without questions:D Now, I will post my answers to my buddy mailman’s questions 👍 **

Mailman, mailman, mailman, did not Jesus say? " For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them"**.Matthew 15:4

** And did the 2 commandments replace the “14”, thus voiding the old law?**
Replace? You are really funny,You ask that like you sincerely believe that I think that! HAHAHAHA!:extrahappy: Short answer -NO!
**

You might understand that the way you twist things said! You can pick whatever you desire! hehehe! 😃 What I meant and that is believed is that by “obeying the gretest commandments” you automatically obey all of the 10 Commandments. But, of course you already knew that!

Thanks for playing,I had fun also. 👍 God Bless**

**All in all, a very “nice” post! 👍 **
Many Fathers did not interpret Peter to be the Rock.
SO??
Also Peter’s threefold affirmation of love made amends for his threefold denial. Neither of these citation is convincing to prove the claims of the modern papacy.
To whom?
Roman catholics make a lot of assertions of jump to a lot of prematutre conclusions. You are one of them.
Oh, I understand kind of like the solo scriptura thing the protestants do? But we have both ral tradition dating back 2000 years and historical documentation to back up our claims. Which by the way, “only” we have to believe!l

The Bible doesn’t say the bishop of Rome is the infallible ruler of the whole Church.
**Who actually cares? There is a lot the bible doesn’t say! **
You just laboriously interpret it that way. The Fathers of the Church didn’t see it that way.
Actually they did! Prove that your statement is accurate and not just your opinion, please!
The Orthodox members of CAF have very compentently debated this issue ad nauseum.
**They "broke away "from the “true Church” 900 years after it was founded. They have "true apolstic succession, however they are wrong! Would you expect a divorced spouse to support their ex-spouse’s claim to their joint property? **
So there is no need to repeat it here. Just agree to disagree.
B]That my friend sounds like an excellent idea. I just hope it doesn’t forfeit your eternal soul. I will pray for you!

God Bless

RobGentner:
Well just to answer your question…Protestants can answer your “unanswerable” question:
If Jesus is God, and He established His Church here on earth. and He gave that church authority over his followers. Why would He later feel a need to form other churches?

Jesus founded the Catholic Church which is not exclusive to the church at Rome. Protestants and Orthodox do not interpret those cited passages to refer to a monarchial government that rules the Church from the Vatican. If you weren’t so arrogant and condescending you might see how your question isn’t such a stumper after all.

P.S. Don’t bother praying for me. I don’t need a proud pharisee looking down at this poor tax collector.
