Apologies if there is already a thread here somewhere by this title. I did a search with the exact question, but nothing came up.

Anyway, I’d really like to see what the consensus is. How many angels can dance on the head of a pin, anyway?
I know this sounds really simplistic, but it is the best answer that I can come up with. I have been thinking about this question ever since you started this topic.

And here’s the answer.

As many angels that God would permit to dance on the head of the pin.

God bless.

It depends on whether they’re Catholic angels or Fundamentalist angels.

An infinite number of Catholic angels could dance on the head of a pin, because they are spirits and do not occupy space, even a teeny tiny space like the head of a pin.

Fundamentalist angels would not dance.
😃

I did not review ALL the answers or inserts on this question to check if anybody already pointed out that it has been said that the serious point of asking such a question has been historically to cointribute to the development of the art and logic of scholastic reasoning in Catholicism. As it shows up in some of the previous comments here…

We might add wit, as a corollary, to the "develoment of the art and logic of scholastic reasoning in Catholicism. As G.K. Chesterton observed, “Angels fly because they take themselves lightly.” We all need a little levity to counteract the effects of gravity (understood in more than one way here).

Actually, even the Greeks believed in angels or “spirits.” Socrates believed he had a spirit who guided him–a demon in his terminology. That word didn’t have the same meaning back then that it acquired. Aristotle spoke of “intelligences.”

But when it comes down to dancing on pins, only pinheads do that. 🙂

All of them.

Unless someone has evidence that there is an angel incapable of dancing on the head of a pin.

If an angel or angels coming to earth for a mission took physical form - none. It would be the height of discourtesy to ask him her them to sit on a pin
But right now as in Holy Mass there are quadrillions of them in my favorite chapel present to minister to the Holy One of God
By the way who first asked that question rhetorical or other wise

Can one dance while sitting down??? 😃

Not sure who asked this question, but it sure has sparked some interesting conversations down through the ages and continues here in the esteemed halls of CAF.

God bless.
