It would be interesting to see how many Byzantine Catholic Eparchies there are in the USA. Where are they located? When where they formed? Who were the bishops assigned, to date? What areas/ or states do they support? Big John

Well the list of Al (the Pilgrim), has the best list of the Eastern Catholic’s. The other one was a good try if you are of the Roman Church but too much of a trial of search to obtain eastern churches. So I guess this thread is short lived but in a way an educational entry for those that were unaware of the Eastern Catholic churches and their locations. Great list. Big John

Just one thing–there are TWO Chaldean Catholic eparchies in the USA. The other (not listed on the site) is Eparchy of St. Peter for the Chaldeans, located in San Diego, Ca.

In sum, there are 195 Archdioceses/Archeparchies and Dioceses/Eparchies of the Catholic Church in the U.S.A., subdivided into:

145 Latin Catholic dioceses;
–33 Latin Catholic archdioceses;

–15 Eastern Catholic eparchies; and
**–2 **Eastern Catholic archeparchies

Although it has not been reflected in the USCCB website, I think the 17 eparchies and archeparchies of the Eastern Catholic Churches in the U.S. have been constituted as a separate, and new, Region XV of the USCCB.

In this manner, the Eastern Catholic bishops may be able to confer among themselves, as one group, apart from their Latin counterparts. It used to be that each Eastern Catholic Church and her bishop belonged to the region where they were physically situated.

For a listing of the current (i.e., probably as of the end of 2006 or 2005) number of faithful in each diocese/eparchy in the U.S., please refer to:

By the way, The Eparchy of St. Peter for the Chaldeans was the receptor of the recent mass translation from the Assyrian Church of the East, led by Mar Bawai Soro. One of our Forum members, Anthony (antgaria) joined in this journey and gave us some of his personal accounts.

Off the subject but do you happen to know how many people were involved?

Michael:

Anthony (antgaria) should know the approximate figures.

But Aramis might be on target.

(Thanks, Aramis, for answering Michael’s query.)
