I goofed on the other pole for a complete comparison. Sorry I got distracted by the little ones. I will see if I can get a moderator to bump off the thread to this one. Sorry again.
Sorry was not thinking of my Orthodox brothers and sisters. My apologies. Thanks! Sorry I cannot yet vote in your poll. I hope there are many responses.
(I guess our Orthodox brothers and sisters will have to sit this one out?)
I created it under the generalization in the what to do with a KJV Bible thread. When the broad statement was made that majority of Catholics do not read their Bible. So I wanted to see pole results. Hope it makes a little more sense. This pole still makes little sense
I just want to say that there is** nothing** in the bible that suggests we read the bible every day. Shocking, I know. Bibles weren’t in print until Christianity was 1500 years old. Most people throughout history have been illiterate and unable to read. That is why we know as Catholics that the bible says,I goofed on the other pole for a complete comparison. Duh, Who said it was?I just want to say that there is** nothing** in the bible that suggests we read the bible every day. Shocking, I know. Bibles weren’t in print until Christianity was 1500 years old. Most people throughout history have been illiterate and unable to read. That is why we know as Catholics that the bible says,
**
faith comes from hearing** the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ
Romans 10:17
and
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."[f]
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear **without someone preaching to them? **And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Romans 10:13-15
Daily communicants at Mass hear more scripture than the majority of faithful sola scriptura people I have ever known.
Not everyone likes to read, and** that has never been a determinant of someone’s faithfulness.**
No GAP, why so rude?Duh, Who said it was?
Are you opposed to people reading the bible?
Ok I understandNo GAP, why so rude?
I’m responding to the protestant argument that workingman posed in the OP.
Protestants think we’re less than Christian because we don’t carry our bibles to church with us. I know. I was one.
Speaking from experience, I’d say it makes a lot more sense.I have since read most of Revelation since converting to Catholicism and it makes MUCH more sense as a Catholic…I bet the rest of the Bible does, too.
I don’t know but excerpts from the Bible are part of the daily Catholic massI goofed on the other pole for a complete comparison. Sorry I got distracted by the little ones. I will see if I can get a moderator to bump off the thread to this one. Sorry again.
Now you’re going to skew the non-Christian results.I’m Orthodox. We got left out.So I had to categorize myself as “none Christian [sic].”
What is this? A wide margin Bible, or something else?Any who, I recently bought one of those note-taker Bibles, and I’m in love with it.Allows me to take notes, refer to various passages, and exegete scripture much more than I could before.
Some of them are wide-margin. The specific one I got was an NIV that had scripture on one page, and a blank page on the opposite side. I will admit that at first I thought it was a goofy thing to buy and would probably end up being a waste of money, but I’ve fallen in love with it. I’ve kept references and lists of certain scriptures on my computers before, but for some reason it’s nice to have it in a written, organized form. Whenever I read the Bible and see something that catches my eye, or something that I realize is related to something else, I can take notes and have it ready for whenever I have to make reference. What is this? A wide margin Bible, or something else?![]()
Nice!scripture on one page, and a blank page on the opposite side.
I hear you.I’ll admit I’m not entirely fond of the NIV (I’ve had to scratch out and replace a few words and phrases that are rather bad translations)
