How many different parts in human body?

It might sound simple, but I am simple, thanks!

How many different parts in the human body, male and then female?

One or two examples: six muscles that move each eye. That is already fourteen.

How many parts to each muscle? I do not know.

How many parts to each eye? I do not know.

One more simple one, how many bones?

How many parts to each bone?

This Philosophy board is the closest thing to a science board on this site, and science and philosophy are in a sense the same.

Firstly, what is meant by a part? Is the whole gastrointestinal tract one part? Or is it a compound part made up of smaller parts such as the lips, mouth, tongue, teeth, salivary glands, epiglottis, esophagus, stomach, duodenum, ileum, ileo-cecal valve, appendix, ascending colon, tranverse colon, descending colon, rectum, anus, sphincter valve, etc.?

I have no idea how many parts.

Is the whole gastrointestinal tract one part? My answer would be no. I would imagine it has hundreds of parts.

A tooth has many parts, doesn’t it?

Subatomic particles are parts in my judgment.

The parts might be almost countless.

But it seems to me, a scientist might have already counted or made a good estimate.

I do not know where to look!
 
Go buy yourself a copy of Gray’s Anatomy a book used by medical students, and read it for your answer. That is where you look. It’s not a matter of philosophy, it is a matter of demonstrable science–facts.
 
I think that when parts of the body can be defined as distinct entities through palpation or x-rays, then I think this question can be answered. For example the bones in the arms and legs are separated from each other by cartilage. Even certain organs such as the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, adrenals, thyroid, thymus, eyes, ovaries, uterus, testicles, bladder, prostate and penis can be counted as parts. But can the breasts, salivary glands, sweat glands, hair follicles, sebaceous glands, Skenes glands, Cowpers glands, Fallopian tubes, Ureters, urethra, blood vessels, tear ducts, mucous producing tissues, sinuses, and nasal concha be counted as parts? Now we are getting into the definition of a part.
 
First off, it’s going to be an average; as some human beings lack minor muscles or have extra small bones, or lack some smaller blood vessels. Also some bones merge between infancy and adulthood.

The accepted number of bones in an adult human body is 206; the average for muscles is 650 (IMS).

Also, some “parts” overlap; ie, each limb is a body part, so is the neck, so is the head, etc; but each consists of many bones, muscles, ligaments, nerves, etc. And the skin, itself three parts, overlaps the whole thing.

Get an anatomy textbook and start counting :)🙂

The ideas are great!

I just do not have the time, talent, or energy.

It would take hours just to count the parts of the eyes, don’t think?

The fluids in the eyes and the rest of the body are almost countless, at least to the amateur biologist like me. And amateur comes from the the word for LOVE! I love biology.

Don’t forget sub-parts!

A lung is a body part, but it further consists of miles of arterioles, pleura, alveoli and miles of bronchioles.

The brain has several lobes and levels, three fluid membranes, 1E11 neurons, 1E12 glions, and several times that many synapses.

Each bone has a cortex, trabeculae, and marrow. Etc.

And then of course, we consist of cells, which cannot be counted. Is each cell a body part? What about its parts???:)🙂

It is a human characteristic to want to divide things into discrete categories, but nature itself is not nearly so discriminating. The Terminologica Anatomica lists over 7,500 named parts of the human body. Of course, many of these terms apply to parts of the body that may not be considered organs, and some apply to parts of individual organs. However, this large number of names points to the complexity of the human body.

Then they go on to mention 32 adult teeth, not to mention baby teeth.
 
I cannot even imagine the number of parts is an eye!

I cannot even imagine the coordination of the tongue and teeth, not to mention an entire human body working together. And how about the whales? And how about the total size of the Red Wood trees in California?

The trunks elephants have from 4,000 to 100,000 muscles. It depend on which site you use. So I do not know, but wow!

In my opinion…

The complexity of a big Red Wood Tree, a Blue Whale, and a human being yell a being or group of beings made them!

“Virginia the atheists are correct.”

The logic of human beings can see some thing or things or beings had to make all of this.

It is that simple!

I am not saying one religion or philosophy, but it is self-evident to an honest person, some being or beings made this.

I bet it was turtles. And who made the turtles? More turtles. It’s turtles all the way down.
 
I do not know if people are serious or not,

The beings that made us may have been made by other even superior beings. The beings that made us might not be in existence to this day.

And so you hear this, Dawkins did say in Expelled: “we may have been made by aliens,” space aliens that is.

I am also putting forth the idea that they could have done it through billions of years or really quick.

Let us just suppose that the answer to you question is xxxxxthis many parts. Now what?
 
Like I said: some being(s) or thing(s) made all of this–it is totally reasonable!

Whether it or they have limited existence in this area of the universe, don’t know.

Whether it or they made all this from or by using materials already in existence, who knows.

Whether they or it are/is still existence, who knows.

Whether they or it was made, who can know.

Human reason can see some thing made all that we can observe and that which we cannot observe.

In my opinion, this is the realm of reason.

And reason can see the logic and reason of all that surrounds us.

The scientists that will not admit this logic are incorrect, illogical in this area of human reason.

In my opinion…
