I pray the Liturgy of the Hours and go to Mass most days. So i usually pary between 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day-whan the astros were in the playoffs i was praying a lot morehttp://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon7.gif

man, not as much as i need to…i can’t stay focused like I should, you know? I start out talking to God and end up thinking about some test or something before falling asleep forgetting that I was praying in the first place. Wow. i think i should get off the forums and go pray some, maybe that’s one of the problems;)

I don’t pray nearly enough, but I know that, and I am trying to improve. Thankfully we have a heavenly mother and a multitude of saints who pray for us round the clock, even when we should be praying but aren’t.

And, their prayer for us is stronger when we are in union with them in our prayer!

Maybe you could think of every waking moment/action as a prayer.

Then too, is it quality or quantity ?

A spiritual classic to read about this is “The Practice of the Presence of God” by Brother Lawrence.

Hopefully over time, the quality of the prayer improves, even if it began as good.

Hi Dorothy…very true! But at times we do not know how to express what is in our hearts, and at these times, The Holy Spirit hears the groaning of our hearts and conveys this to The Father…hence if we feel unable to pray, well The Holy Spirit knows that our ardent desire is indeed to pray - hence we are still praying. What unites us to The Communion of Saints who always pray for us is the state of Grace … and as we go about our daily duties though we are not consciously praying, since we are about God’s Will for us - we are praying another form of prayer. There are many indeed ways of praying.
But as you have pointed out, when we turn consciously to the saints and Our Lady, Saint Joseph and request ardently their prayers and another way of praying, we are heard and responded to immediately.
But you may well have intended the above in your post.

Regards and Peace…Barb:)

Definitely less than an hour. I’d like to be able to pray an hour but the most I ever pray for in one continuous prayer is about 25 minutes. :o

not enough is the fair enough statement but when I think about it. What really is categorized as prayer? Is it just saying Hail Marys, Our Fathers, the rosary, mass, etc. or is it all other things considered like jsut talking to God and what not.

As a college student I probably spend maybe a minute if that on average in reagrds to actual praying though there are group raosaries available which are nice among other things that I can attend. However, if I think about it, it takes 15 minutes to wal ot school so that is 30 minutes there and back. I usually go back between classes so that is another 30 minutes and sometimes more than that depending on how many trips I make. Now maybe I don’t say actual prayers, but I at least can reflect on mylife or maybe just acknowlege the beuty of the day or God’s creation and then of course if I have an upcoming midterm, 15 minutes is just enought time to get a rosary in to ask for help. The there is just the time before you fall asleep which I suppose it also time for refection and conversation with God. So again, what is considered prayer time. Even if I win my argume for all the extra added time that I can say shoudl techniquely count as praying time for me it is still going to be under the hous almost every day but still, you get the point.

“Unstructured Prayer” is definitely considered prayer, in fact that is what St. Paul meant when he talked about praying without ceasing. Keep up your freestyle pray times.

Hello wjp984…Joysongs Post #7 and mine #18 may assist to underscore that there are many ways of praying, including going about the duties of our state for the Love of God which can be an intention formed at the beginning of each day, and to go about such duties as well as we can simply because they are God’s Will for us. The Holy Spirit will inspire when to raise our conscious mind to God, though perhaps ever so briefly (aspirations) as we do go about our day.

Send regards…Peace…Barb

…absolutely!..prayer is anything it all that raises the heart and mind to God…often one just chats to Him about something or other, or tells Him things…freestyle prayer! At times one just knows His Presence and there are no words. There are many many ways of praying!

Peace…Barb
