France (and the rest of Europe) has embraced secularism (along with several other issues) with gusto and are reaping the results. Pope Benedict spoke of a “remnant church” and many here seemed to presume he was speaking fo the US.
He wasn’t.
Much of Europe has embraces socialism, and we here in the US see the Democratic party becoming more and more socialist.
“The Democrats abandon Catholics” reads the headline on a March 23 op-ed by Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan in the Wall Street Journal.
While the note states him commenting on three issues - the dignity and sanctity of human life, the importance of Catholic school, and the defence of a baby’s civil rights - the list is actually much longer.
Hillary, either before or while she was running for President, remarked to the effect that religion needed to stop at the door. The Obama administration forced groups such as the Little Sisters of the Poor to have abortion as part of their health plan; the list goes on and on.
The US trails Europe in "progressive’ laws, but if the most recent confab of hopefuls in the Democratic party have any say (meaning, be elected) they will be doing their best to catch up.
