How many Non-Catholics wear a Crucifix?

I own several but the dead body on the cross still bothers me. I don’t own one that is wearable size. They have more sentimental value for me, but I prefer to worship the risen Christ. He has left His empty cross and is now in a whole, new perfect body. It is our hope.

When I see an empty cross that is the symbolism for me. Greater hope. Crucifixes makes me feel like we are murdering Christ over and over again everyday. We are stuck in a place that we need to move on from and look to the future hope promised to us.

I wear a cross everyday. I do have a couple of crucifixes that were bought for me as gifts, though. I also have a rosary that my uncle got me from Rome.

I grew up in the Assemblies of God, so I prefer the cross over the crucifix. Just personal preference. I have no problems with the crucifix, though. Beautiful reminder of why we unite for our Lord.

I and my wife wear a crucifix and we have one on a wall in a prominent place in our living room to remind us what Christ did for us on the cross. We always make the sign of the cross when we pray and say grace at meals. :signofcross:

I don’t wear any religious symbols. I just never got in the habit. I’d say plain cross preferred since I’d rather emphasize the resurrection rather than the suffering, but I have no objection to a crucifix. Rosaries are alright too, but I never belonged to a church that used them.

Even before considering conversion, I’ve worn a crucifix. I wear it daily during Lent as a reminder to myself of my Lenten commitments. I have several crosses that have been gifted to me, but I’ve never felt the same about the cross vs. crucifix that many of my Protestant friends do.

Apparently, we (non-Catholics) are suppose to have an empty cross to remind us of the resurrection. I’ve always preferred the crucifix as a reminder of the suffering, which I view as the true gift. When I see an empty cross hanging in our churches, I feel empty, since numerous people in history have died on crosses for a variety of reasons - I don’t feel the message just seeing a cross. Only one Jesus was on the cross, and seeing Him fills my soul with a variety of emotion.
Yes, the cross didn’t save us, but rather the one hanging on it. 🙂

That’s awesome! I had no idea that there were Protestants who made the sign of the cross, because none of my Protestant friends do. Glad to hear this! =)

This spring my daughter graduated from college, a Lutheran college. Upwards of 3,000 in attendance, and it was a sea of hands making the sign of the cross when commencement began with the Invocation.

When I was non-Catholic I wouldn’t touch a crucifix with a ten-foot pole. Seriously. Would. Not. Touch. It. Even to touch it creeped me out.Now I wear one every single day. 🙂 It brings me great joy and comfort.

I Have 2 Crucifixes But there not Hanging up yet , I don’t Wear one , & I’m Converting to Catholicism-Catholic here Soon So Maybe I’ll Start Buying Crucifix Necklace’s to wear .

I wear neither a cross nor a crucifix, but I have no problem with wearing either. I just don’t own either. When I get one that’s suitable, I’ll wear it.

I have a lovely small cross I wear all the time, i don’t take it off ever, it was given to me as a gift this November gone, and I take great pride and comfort from wearing it. I had it blessed as well, so it is a constant reminder for me to stay strong and keep faith.

I have 3 rosaries, but I never wear them. I always keep one with me (either in a bag or pocket) for prayer and comfort, and usually the other two hanging on my doorway in my flat. It has never occurred to me to wear it.

I used to own a crucifix, but had a fire and now I don’t own it. I don’t own a cross either. But am thinking of getting either a cross or crucifix in the future.

What I have seen visiting Lutheran churches is the pastor making the sign at the benediction, and the congregation doing nothing.

Well, you are welcome to visit mine sometime.

At least in America, the practice had gone into decline. I could speculate why, but it really doesn’t matter. Suffice it to say that American Lutherans are making the sign of the cross with growing and greater regularity.
