How many people does God need?

God is all powerful, The Blessed Trinity is complete.

God does not need a single person.

God wants every person.

If you look at the size of america you could easily squeeze another 700 million in there no sweat. You can easily double the population of Australia.

Why does the CC demand humans have as many children as possible?
It does not demand that.
If someone gave you that impression, they are mistaken.

Let’s look at this at a different angle. Let’s say we have a magic wand and poof! Everyone in the world will not have sex until they get married. Do you know how different the world would look? Sexually transmitted diseases would disappear. Teen pregnancies would disappear. Babies would be born into 2 parent families, as God designed. The demand for abortion would be next to zero. Single parent families living below the poverty line would be next to zero.
What we are seeing in today’s world is a broken world. One that left God’s plan and consequently went off the rails.
God’s design for the family unit has been the stable building block of civilizations.
We have seen the collapse of the family and this is what it looks like.

I thought we got past that bit in the 1960’s, when the whole world was going to be destroyed as all starved to death.

Nature has a process some would call self-correction; anyone who has lived in the country and paid attention is aware that animals go through cycles of exploding populations and then die-off. There have been studies indicating that coyotes are sensitive to population levels of jack rabbits; as the rabbits go through a die-off, coyotes will either reduce the number of kits, or stop reproducing for a period of time.

Disease has the same result in over-populated areas. The 1957 Asian flu killed approximately 1 million; the 1968 Hong Kong flu pandemic somewhere between 1 and 3 million, and that is just one disease. People die from a multitude of diseases, many of which are transferable from person to person.

And as to the mantra of limited resources, that is far less true than that resources are not well distributed.

Let’s use an analogy here. A married couple doesn’t NEED children. But they have children because they love children. Once they have a child, their love only grows. Love doesn’t decrease the more children there are. Love is meant to be shared, that’s why Catholic families are normally large. Because Catholics have embraced the fact that Love is not meant to be kept to oneself. We are meant to completely give of ourselves for Love. Now, God is Love. He is perfect, complete love. We are His children. God doesn’t NEED us, but he loves us, and that’s why he wants us all with Him in heaven. I hope that helps, congrats on entering the Church 😉

I’ve been hearing and reading a lot about how the CC desires its members to have as many children as possible.
You’ve heard wrong.
Why does the CC demand humans have as many children as possible?
It makes no such demand at all.
If God created the planet, wouldn’t He want us to take care of it instead of destroying it with more humans?
It does not follow that more humans must destroy the planet. But it is also correct that a finite planet will not support an indefinitely rising population. Therefore, the population will not indefinitely rise.

That could very likely be a tongue in cheek comment by people because the Church says that a couple cannot use artificial contraception or sterilization. Because of this I can imagine people, while rolling their eyes, make the comment that the Church wants couples to have as many children as possible. It’s their own spin on church teaching. Certainly misleading.

It is my understanding that Catholicism does not require that one have children or even be married. The single life may be fitting for some, marriage for others, and the priesthood or convent for still others.

Even when a couple is married, the Church does not “demand” that they “have as many children as possible”. The Church requires that when the couple has sexual relations, they be open to life. Couples who are using NFP (natural family planning) will be abstaining from sex during fertile times. If they were required to “have as many children as possible” then they would be required to have sex during those fertile times, and the Church has no such requirement.

God need exactly zero people AND God needs every person. Obviously God can exist without people, but God depends on us on this planet to make life better or as Jesus called it the “Kingdom of God”. “…on earth as it is in Heaven”.
