How many rosaries do you own??

I only have one, but I love it. It was a gift from my godmother for my Confirmation four years ago.
 
You asked if you can have too many Rosaries? No, I do not belive you can. I do not say the roasrie as often as I think I should, but it is always around.
 
At last count, counting ‘gimmees’ and my finger rosary, I have 26, not including a positively ancient one in silver that breaks if I look at it hard(so it doesn’t get used anymore), and one that needs to be assembled, and two that are hanging on crucifixes and are a bit large to use.

DURN eBay, durn them to heck!!!
 
I’ve lost track of the number of my rosaries, but I use four on a steady basis. I have a pretty pink pearl-like rosary from Fatima for the Joyful Mysteries. I have a blue ladder rosary for the Glorious Mysteries. My olive wood rosary for the Sorrowful mysteries is from Jerusalem and has been blessed by the Pope. A special crystal rosary from the Oblates helps me to pray the new Luminous Mysteries. It has the mysteries written on the Our Father beads/medals. I like to use all of my rosaries, so I switch off sometimes.
 
Hmmm… just ask my friends and family this question and they will shake their heads and go “too many”… 🙂

Long before I came back to the Church, I was in love with old rosaries, and would acquire them at various garage/estate sales, antique shops, and thrift stores.

Once I came back to the Church, my collection has become more fluid, as I try not to become too “attached” to all these rosaries and give them away as the Spirit moves me…

I still do “rescue” rosaries from various places, including eBay, though lately the question of simony has come up in my conscience (Does anyone have thoughts on this?? Since I imagine that many of these rosaries were blessed by their former devout owners… it seems a shame to just leave them unused in store cabinets though, when I can find homes for them!).

As a side mission I have begun making the cord knotted rosaries and putting them along with the little Carmelite rosary guides in our parish for people to take. I typically do the knotted cross at the end as well, it’s just as fast and knotted crosses fit into pockets/purses better anyway.

I make rosaries, which is easy and fun, they don’t cost very much and don’t take very long- minutes for cord rosaries and a couple hours for a metal one.

Sacramentals which have been blessed ‘lose’ their blessing when sold or given away, so it’s ok to buy them. I also try to rescue rosaries that I see in antique stores and shops; it doesn’t seem right to see them for sale, does it?

No, one cannot have too many rosaries. I have no idea how many I have. :whistle: I make them, I give them away, I buy them on e-bay. I always have one or more with me and have 2 or 3 in my desk at work in case someone should need one. Funny thing is that I have some really beautiful rosaries and I usually use one with plain wooden beads. It used to belong to a nun and is very worn. Perhaps she is my heavenly prayer partner now.
 
I always carry two with me. The one that I use and one to give away, along with information about how to pray the rosary. I am always prepared to teach.

Really? :confused:

I’ve always heard that you could give them away without them losing their blessing, but that you could not sell (or buy) them. In fact, I know many people who give away blessed Miraculous Medals. I have quite a few Rosaries that have been blessed, with my pastor knowing (because I told him) that I intended to give them as presents to people who promised to pray them. I have them in my office and give them to students (and fellow faculty members) who ask for one.

I agree that buying (or selling) a blessed item does cause it to lose its blessing.

Would somebody (an apologist or priest) correct me if I am wrong?

When I was in England I was at York Minster (Church of England/Episcopal/Anglican) and I seen rosaries for sale in the gift shop. I found that funny. I couldn’t wait to get home to tell my Anglican friend.

I have a friend who is a priest in Switzerland and he has sent me several blessed items. He says that you can give items away and they still retain their blessing. You just can’t sell them, thats called simoney (I forgot why) but he works very hard against the people that sell blessed relics on ebay and other places trying to educate people that when they buy blessed items they do loose their blessing.

I don’t believe buying a rosary is the same as buying a relic, unless the rosary IS a relic. You do see relics on e-bay, too, and I agree one never should buy them. Of course the seller is always offering the reliquary, “not the relic.” And I do ask Father to re-bless the rosaries I buy.

If I recall correctly, it’s from Simon Magnus(?) (not sure of the spelling) in Acts. He tried to buy (from Peter) the ability to give blessings and call down the Holy Spirit.

Just realized, I never answered the question (except in the poll). I carry two Rosaries with me - one is a Rosary Ring for when I want to pray while driving, the other is one I’ve had for several years - blessed by the Holy Father, and with a third class relic medal of Our Lady of Fatima. I have one in the car for emergencies (somebody else is with me and wants to pray). I have four (plus two Rosary Rings) in various rooms of my house (for when I or someone else wishes to pray), and six or seven in my office for giving to students and co-workers who ask me for one.

Quite true. I know people who wear Rosaries as though they were necklaces. I always ask them how often they take them off and pray them. Me, I can get along with only the two I normally use (the ring and the blessed Rosary), because those are the ones I use to pray. But I do also like to have a few for others to use.

I have several! My main one that I use most nights is silver with green beads with shamrock shapes pressed into them and I keep it on my dresser. I have a silver one that was a gift, one that I made (but can’t find right now), a small “ring” rosary that I keep in my change purse, a one decade rosary that I keep in my car, a prolife hand knotted rosary from Guatemala and a cheapie from our adoration chapel that I keep in my bag for work. I guess I marked the wrong one for the poll - I thought I only had 5!

I don’t think you can ever have too many! You can only use one at a time, but you aren’t always in the same places all the time!

I had to smile at you having lost a few, because that is the bane of my existence! I lost a blue cystal rosary that had been blessed by the Pope, and another that had been given to me by my best friend. I JUST found my Mom’s rosary that I thought I had lost…That was a majoy upset.

**I keep one over my rearview mirror, one by my bed, one by my chair in my quilting/computer/reading room, one by my chair in the living room, and one in my purse. I usually put one in my pocket, if I have one. **
 
I am a rosary maker, so I have WAY more than six 😉 I belong to a guild that makes them for missions (and we have done some for the military, too!), and we sell nicer ones to raise money for our mission work. You can see our rosaries here: home.catholicweb.com/shjrosary. I do not have them blessed; I figure whoever receieves them should have the blessing done.

I keep a basket of rosaries in the house, one by my bedside, one or two in my purse, and have 2 rosary bracelets. We also have several rosaries in the car (NOT hanging from the rearview mirror) as this is the place where we tend to say the rosary the most. No, my driving isn’t that bad 😛 , we just found that with the kids strapped into their seats, we literally had a “captive” audience. Plus, it takes exactly one rosary to drive to Church, so it’s a great way to prepare for Mass. :gopray: (They need a rosary smiley on here!)
