How many Sacraments do we have in our Catholic Faith

🙂 Hello to all and Happy Birthday to all who were born today. My question today is how many Sacraments do we have in our Catholic Faith? Godbless all.
 
The short answer is seven:

Baptism
Holy Eucharist
Confirmation
Reconciliation (aka Penance aka Confession)
Holy Matrimony
Holy Order
Anointing of the Sick (aka Extreme Unction aka Last Rites)

I once heard a priest claim that Bingo is the eighth sacrament, though.

Seven just like the Orthodox Church. However speaker Matthew Gallatin says that we shouldn’t limit it to just seven. There are other great means by which God conveys grace to us (Fasting, prayer, etc…)

He’s dead wrong. There are other means by which God conveys grace, but these are not Sacraments. Sacramentals also convey grace, but they are not of divine origin, and are not Sacraments.

Seven. No more, no less.
 
It has also been said (perhaps by John Paul?) that the Church itself may be considered a sacrament, IIRC.
 
In general, the Latin sacrament/sacramental distinction does not exist in Byzantine theology… it should be no shocker therefore to hear that a byzantine, be they Catholic or Orthodox, counts more than 7 sacraments.

In a sense it is. The Church is a sacrament of Christ in that it is an sign of the presence of Christ in the world. If we take the Balitmore Catechism definition. The Church is an outward sign (it is a reality, a tangible entity, the People of God), instituted by Christ (Christ gave us the Church), to give grace (through the sacraments of the Church and by living according to her teachings we receive grace).

There are SEVEN in both the Latin and Eastern Catholic Churches.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church is the Catechism for the Universal Church, both East and West.

Anointing of the Sick (aka Extreme Unction) is not the same thing as Last Rites.

Last Rites consists of Anointing of the Sick as well as Confession and Holy Communion (Viaticum).
