How many swim teams are there?

I’ve seen signatures that say “Tiber swim team” “Thames swim team”; “Elb swim Team”: Are there these swim teams?

Who is your signature quote from?

That’s great.
 
I actually didn’t know what it meant until I found a Tiber swim team forum.

The swim team means converts and reverts. Swimming the Tiber (or other river) means converting or returning to a religion, such as Christianity.
 
I would also like to know where Sambos got that quote. Its really great! Roanoker

It’s a great quote properly understood, but taken as an exhaustive anthropological statement it is, from a Christian perspective, defective and possibly semi-gnostic since it seems to imply that the real person is the soul while the body is just something attached.

A Christian anthropology must understand human beings, as created by God, are both soul and body; each part being essential to his or her being.

This is why there will be a resurrection of the body because we are only complete when we are whole, and wholeness, for people, means both soul and body together because that is what God intends for us and He must think very highly of it to have sent His Son to share so completely in it.

This means I left when I was younger, married in another faith and returned with my wife and 3 children. We experience a very deep conversion that drew us, me kicking and screaming, home to the Catholic Church. I haven’t heard of the others until this thread. It’s just a metapor.
 
Tiber means you became Catholic. I think Bosporus means you went Eastern. Thames means Anglican converts. I suppose a convert to LDS would have swum the Erie canal (toward Kirtland, OH), and a convert to JW swims the East River (?). A convert to Protestantism (any form) swims the Elbe into Wittenberg, Germany. It started with “swimming the Tiber” into Rome.

Except the LDS are now headquarted in a desert - Utah. I guess you would have to swim the salt lake but that may get confused with the Dead Sea not to mention having an effect like sandpaper on your skin. Did the JW’s start in New York? I really don’t know.
 
A Southern Baptist could swim the Tennessee or Mississippi…or maybe Not swim at all but cross the Mason-Dixon…they would have to be different

JW’s started in Pennsylvania somewhere but were reorganized and moved to New York before they took their current form.
The RLDS are still HQ’d in Kirtland. The LDS in Salt Lake City did have a custom of baptizing in the lake, which is more buoyant than seawater, but this led to problems. They sometimes walked in backward until submerged and then walked forward out again. When they moved to coastal areas, apparently someone tried that with the Pacific Ocean.:eek: Not the same thing. Like Chicagoans and Ohians who come out west and try to jet ski and swim in the ocean. That’s why we have all those signs saying “no diving or swimming”.

I don’t think someone converting to Baptist would say they’re swimming the Elbe. 🙂

I wonder what they would say then. If they believe they are from Ana baptist do they swim the Rhine? If they are from the Puritans did they swim the Thames as well or the river Ouse since Oliver Crommwell was from Huntingdon?
