I cannot quote rubrics or cite documents.
However I recall hearing that a person should not receive Holy Communion more than 2 times in a single liturgical day except for very grave reasons.
Receiving more than once is, I believe, discouraged, but permitted.
As I said, I cannot cite any documents, so I may be wrong.

To preserve the sacred nature of the Eucharist and prevent abuse of the sacrament, the Church holds that generally once a day is proper. Exceptions however do exist if a person goes to a daily or Sunday mass, receives, and then attends another mass that day for a different purpose. They can receive at the second mass. For instance, one goes to Saturday morning daily mass, and then attends a wedding, a confirmation, an ordination or a funeral. It is my understanding that receiving communion at both masses is permissible.

“more” than twice provided there was extreme danger such as danger of death. . . thus, the person would be receiving ‘viaticum’ and could receive as often as he/she desired or was able to receive either until the person’s death or until the danger had passed.
But let’s assume this is a normal devout person who just wants to receive the Eucharist. So in that case. . .twice daily, provided the second time is in the context of a Mass.

In THE CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH 1388 It is in keeping with the very meaning of the Eucharist that the faithful, if they have the required dispositions, receive communion when they participate in the Mass.

An old priest told me that priests could celebrate Mass three times on Christmas. He also said that the priests usually did this before Vatican II. He relayed that the nuns in the parish would attend all the masses, which might be nine or twelve masses. We didn’t discuss whether the people could receive communion at all three masses, though.

Canon Law:
Can. 917 One who has received the blessed Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only within a eucharistic celebration in which that person participates, without prejudice to the provision of can. 921 §2.
Can. 921 §1 Christ’s faithful who are in danger of death, from whatever cause, are to be strengthened by holy communion as Viaticum.
§2 Even if they have already received holy communion that same day, it is nevertheless strongly suggested that in danger of death they should communicate again.
