I have been trying to obtain what, for me, is a simple answer to the question “how many times per day can I receive Communion?” I understand there are Canon provisions for weddings, funerals, Last rites, Vigil, etc but I’m merely concerned about if I can receive Communion at both of the regular masses I might attend on, say, a Tuesday. I have received 2 different answers from priests and my internet searches end with fuzzy lawyer-like responses, e.g.“One who has received the blessed Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only within a Eucharistic celebration in which the person participates” (Canon 917). This limitation seems designed to encourage active participation in the Church’s worship."

I infer from the above that if I receive Communion “again” that I’ve already received once which equals 2 times and 2 times is the “limitation” that is mentioned.

This question is greatly troubling to me for many reasons not the least of which I’ve had 2 “authorities” give me different answers.

Can you help me? Please, a layman’s explanation.
