How many times were you in love before choosing one?

For married men and women: Were you in love with just one person, the one you married? Or did you go through a lot of romances before settling down? I want to see what difference it makes to a marriage.

I retrospect, just the one time, with my wife.

At the time, twice before I thought I was in love. But now I realize the difference.

God Bless

I was in love with someone before I started dating my husband. He was my best friend at the time and he loved me to, but after prayer we both knew that we were not meant for each other. I’m still grateful for his friendship, but I thank God for leading me to my husband!!!

I didn’t date much–a few guys, but it never turned into anything serious. It was tough. All my friends had boyfriends, and I never had more than a few dates with any one guy. I did sort of date a guy for about a year, but that was more of a friendship than a romance.

In retrospect, I see that God knew what He was doing all along (of course! 🙂 ). I knew within two weeks of our first date that I was going to marry my amazing hubby. We’ve been married six years now. I have absolutely no regrets!

I wouldn’t really call him my first “crush”, I had crushes on guys I never went out with. He was my first love, my first boyfriend -I met him when I was just a month shy of 17. We broke up at one point and I dated someone else briefly. I’ve never been in love with anyone else but him though. We had tough spots earlier in our marriage, we married pretty much right out of highschool. But we put a lot of work into our marriage, my hubby is my bestfriend and we’re more in love than ever. It’ll be 18 years of marriage next February. Woo-hoo! ❤️

DH and I were acquaintances in high school, but didn’t start dating until were were 17 and 19. Neither of us dated anyone else. However I know I had my eye on a few before then, and I’ll admit there were 1 or 2 I was attracted to while we were dating. We were together 6 years with much long distance before marrying. So it’s not that I “never looked back” or around me, but he is DEFINITELY far better suited to me than any of the others I was interested in. I know I made the right choice for sure.

exactly the same: I had thought I was in love many, many times… The sort of teenage crush of a girl who has read waaaaaay to many love stories:shrug:
We met shortly before our 18th birthday, we’re both getting 22 this month, and will be celebrating our 3months anniversary soon.

I must say, I am very, very glad that I never had any boyfriend before him (so did he), so that I never shared all these looks, these tender words, these kisses with anybody else !:o

None of the options fit me. One is close: “I let a few go and I’m glad, but I did settle down pretty fast”

EXCEPT, I did NOT settle down fast. There were a lot of single & alone times in those years because I really didn’t want to just date someone if I realized I wouldn’t marry them, and I didn’t meet a lot of guys I felt were marriage candidates for me (at least none I felt >I< would be compatible with).

So, I thought I was in love a few times, but I ended the relationships when I figured out they were not what I was looking for in a husband - or father to my future children. Not everyone gets to meet their eternal partner early on! 🙂

Yes, it was insanely hard to break up with someone I felt I was in love with, but I knew I had to make the smart choice (or pay the price for the rest of my life).

I’ve been married 3 yrs now, and I’m so glad I had the strength (that God gave me the strength!) to make the right choices along the way before meeting the right one. Married life is wonderful, and so worth the hard choices & loneliness earlier on.

Married my high school sweetheart  Met when we were in 11th grade–at the regional science fair 🤓 and have been best friends ever since. I had one “boyfriend” before DH which lasted for a few months, but I was DH’s first and only girlfriend. I consider him my first “real” BF since I didn’t love my first BF (I dated him to have someone to go with me and my friends to the movies :o).

I had been ‘in love’ with four different guys prior to meeting my husband…dated several in addition to that, sadly. I wasted too much time on dating now that I look back.

I didn’t know right away that my husband was the right one…when you over-date like I did, you think that whoever you choose next is going to be just another guy…but, turns out, he was the right one. I prayed for God to give me a sign about him, and He gave me many! And, to him, the same. Our marriage had a few bumps to get over, but now we are going strong…all thanks to God.🙂

Dang not enough bandwith tell ALL my stories. LOL. Had my first love, when that didn’t work out I just went to being “involved” none of those relationships lasted more than a few months.

So I had a number of relationships but I married the only girl I ever loved. She said she’s glad she didn’t know me when we met.

Wow. Great stories!! Fun poll. 🙂

I was a serial dater until I married my husband at 27. I didn’t really love anybody (including myself) which I believe is why I could never be alone. I told myself that I loved every single one of those fellas, but I was quite a liar. My husband (an agnostic) pretty much saved me from myself and I am thankful that he did! We don’t have a perfect marriage, but because of him I have a great relationship with my Lord and a beautiful daughter. Handsome son due just any minute now!

Well, I’m not married yet, but I think the options on the poll are missing at least one. I let a few go and don’t regret it, but didn’t settle down quickly.

I had two boyfriends when I was younger, one of which I most certainly didn’t love, and the other of which I thought I loved at the time, until I realized that I’d never want to marry him and that I wasn’t comfortable with our relationship being sexual. I took a five-year hiatus from dating after that. Then I had a brief relationship that didn’t work out at all, and finally met my boyfriend, who is the only man I’ve ever felt I could marry. I’m glad I let the others go, but I never really ever considered keeping them. 😊

Ditto with my husband. I did care about the other two, but in retrospect it wasn’t the kind of love to sustain a marriage.

I was enfatuated with several people, seriously dated 3, and casually dated several others before I met and married my husband. I don’t know if any of those poll choices apply to me. I believe in my case and in most other cases any type of love you feel before marriage is an illusion. I can certainly say I never loved anyone before my husband.

I had lots of boyfriends, but my husband was the only one I liked well enough to marry, who also liked me well enough to marry. (If that makes any sense … )

I think it’s too late now to wonder whether I could have done better if I had held out longer - I was already almost 25 years old when I got married. 🤷

We’ve been going for 24 years if you include dating and being engaged, and it’s had its ups and downs, but we’re still best friends.
