How many young traditionalists?

I’m 27, so hope that counts me as young. Yes, I attend the Tridentine Mass - many reasons, but mostly that the aesthetic of that Mass speaks of what is going on underneath more than the ‘aesthetic’ of guitar-ridden horrible hymns, etc. I go every Sunday except when I am roped into doing things at my home Parish.

I am attempting to discern my vocation, and the FSSP is an option I am considering alongside my Archdiocese. I know a few traditionalists at home–through the Internet–so it’s kinda helpful to bounce things off them.

I am nearly 14, a traditionalist, and attend the TLM every week. it’g really encouraging to see other young trads on this forum, since a lot of people seem to think that most Catholic traditionalists are old, so its really encouraging to be able to refute that. i am also already considering the preisthood. please pray for me!!

I’m 15, I consider myself a traditionalist. Want to attend a TLM badly, can’t find one. Want to join the priesthoof, preferably FSSP.

How many young traditionalists post on this site? Do you attend the Tridentine Mass?
Count me in! I’m 15yearold public highschooler. I’d say i attend the Tridentine more times than my fellow peers (whenever i’m around the area)
Is there anyone who is considering becoming an FSSP Priest in the future?
Nah. I have my eye on another religious order that probably will start learning the Tridentine very soon.
What are your experiences? How many other young traditionalists do you know?
The Tridentine helped me to fall even more in love with the Mass! Even though my first time was a bit weird to me, it felt RIGHT. and a some of my friends (older) go to a Tridentine on a weekly basis, while others (like me) go to a Tridentine maybe one a month or once every two months.

THERE IS HOPE! I’m involved in a prayer community that’s slowly starting to recite the Rosary in Latin and slowly learning Latin hymns. But pray for us! Our diocese isn’t too supportive of Latin 😊 … possibly Latin DANCING, but not Latin language.

I am one! I’m 26.

Yes, I live in Albany, NY and I attend what was originally my diocese’s indult Mass in Troy, NY. It’s only about 15 minutes away.

There is a surprising number of young people in my parish, and the Tridentine Mass draws more people than the parish’s other two Masses combined!
I also attend St. Peter’s sometimes. Recently I’ve been mostly attending the Latin NO at St. Mary’s in Albany, but I still try to take in the Tridentine at least once a month.

And to the OP, I’ll be 25 in 2 weeks.

23 here and I attend the TLM every chance I get. It’s offered 1-2 times a month in my area and I would go every week if I could. I really look forward to it every month as most Masses around here are not very reverent.

I am a 19 year old university student (classics) and varsity football player in Canada. I am in the process of discernment and I am feeling a call to the Institute of Christ the King (which is 10x better then the FSSP 😉 ). Although I recently decided to forgo the preformation program to finish my university degree and get some breathing time.

I attend the Tridentine mass infrequently, but whenever I can.

I have come across mixed reactions usually ranging from mild sympathy to outright hostility.

The single largest problem I’ve faced is the older generations looking down at me for this choice. Although my parents are somewhat sympathetic, they will not go to the traditional mass. It seem as though that generation of baby-boomers has been raised with a phobia of Latin and Ad Orientiem.

What lead me to Traditionalism was youth masses and the charismatic movement. In the area of Ontario I’m from, this is the only form of outreach to the youth - and I’m VERY resentful of it, I lost my faith to these happy-clappy protestant-like masses, and the spirit of indifferentism and relativism that overwhelms the “Catholic” Ontario School system. (I for one, think we should scrap the system)

The Tradition of the Church has saved my faith - and I won’t look back. 🙂

I am sixteen and could be considered a traditionalist. I haven’t attended a TLM in a long time since it was discontinued in my city, but another parish decided to host the mass, and I plan to attend soon. I very much favor the way the FSSP does things, with its focus on latin, the divine office, and its monastic like practices. Also it happens to be a diocese away, and the seminary is dedicated to Our Lady of Guadaloupe!

Is late 20s/early 30s considered young? If so, my husband and I try to attend a TLM when we can. I fell in love with it when I lived in Maine for a year and a church up there provided a TLM every Sunday. I had just graduated from college, had a job as a church musician at a Protestant church and the only Catholic mass available for me to make on Sunday was the 12:30 TLM. Well there was also a NO at a church closer by to my job, but once I found the TLM, I preferred to attend that one. The little volunteer choir for the TLM was pretty bad (made up of a bunch of cute, little, old ladies), but it was wonderful that this young pastor who looked to be in his 40s/50s wanted to have this mass available every week. There was an equal mix of congregants. I saw a good amount of young people as I did old people.

When I moved back to home state, it was harder to find a TLM and didn’t know about any until a couple of years ago.

TLM, every Sunday at St. Boniface Church, Pittsburgh, Pa. Rt. 279 N take Hazlett St. Exit. Turn right at Light. 1/4 mi on Left.👍 High Mass at 11:00 a.m. www.pittsburghlatinmass.org.👍

Not sure if you would consider me “young” anymore – i just turned 29. But i’ve been attending the Tridentine since I was about 22 years old.

15, haven’t been to a TLM, but my oldest brother has (he’s in the college seminary) and I’m hoping to attend one in the next month or so…

I used to have a strong desire to attend a Tridentine Mass, but I have relatively little now days.

I love the two churches here that celebrate the Novus Ordo Mass and it is all I can do to get myself to go to my classes and not to go to church instead. I pray that everyone else has the same experience as I when they go to Mass.

Any idea why you’re feeling that way now?
[NB I’m not inviting a discussion; I’m just curious]

To be honest, I think it is for either one of two reasons (or perhaps a little of both).

First, I didn’t know about the Tridentine until I came to CAF and it seemed kind of like a novelty, in addition to being a very pious form of worship. Naturally, I was curious.

Secondly, I think since I have come to college, and found two new parishes that I love, I feel no urge to find something elsewhere. This is primarily because the masses that they say do not have any major liturgical abuses or violations, and usually do not even have small ones. The tabernacles are front and center. Furthermore, St. Thomas Aquinas (one of the two I usually attend) has 24/7 PEA, has an organ, and seems to play more traditional hymns (traditional hymns are very important to me). Most importantly, everyone at these churches, including the priests, actually believe Jesus is present, and love him.

That being said, I would not mind attending a Tridentine Mass. While I don’t think I would become a regular, it certainly is beautiful.

I’m in total shock. There are so many young people here! Myself included of course, but there’s something of a difference between 14 and 20 years old. At least in my mind.

You’re in my prayers!

Thanks, Kevin42. It sounds like you have found really good vibrant parishes. Deo gratias!

Grace and Peace,

I am 40 years old and although I don’t regularly attend a TLM, I’m thrilled to see young people encountering the beauty of Catholic Tradition.

Revive His Church! Amen!
