How many young traditionalists?

I recently just turned 16. I started attending the TLM, here in Dublin at St Audeon’s, around the Feast of the Epiphany, and I have not since looked back. Before I encountered the TLM, I was very much heavily involoved in my NO Parish (serving etc). It was quite awkward coming in every Sunday into the City Centre for St Audeon’s, especially when I knew my parents didnt approve of the TLM. For the first few months I commited a mortal sin (even though it was for a good cause) by lying my parents and telling my parents i was attending a NO mass in the City Centre. I was then approached by the father of a friend of mine, who also attends the TLM, he said he had seen me attending St Audeon’s, andf urged me to put my name down for serving at the mass. I did. I served my first mass on there on the Fourth Sunday after Easter. I eventually told my parents that I had been attendning the TLM in August after prompting from the chapain of St Audeons. They took it averagely, but I didnt tell them about serving as I knew would nt take it well. Last Saturday I gently slipped into a conversation with my Mum that I was considering putting my name down for serving at St Audeons. She said it was out of the question. The next day I was telling the chaplain and he immediately advised me to obey my parents, and to still continue attending St Audeon’s, but not to serve there for another two years until I am legally an Adult. So I obviously must obey my parents and give up serving (something which I love) for two years. So I am for yuor prayers so that my parents can discover the beauty of TLM, and that I can go back soner rather than later to serving.

You and your parents are in my prayers, Chris. I’m sorry that you have to go through something like that. Have you ever asked your parents why they are against you attending the TLM? Perhaps you should talk to them about it if you haven’t already done so.

In any case, think of how much more meaningful it will be to you when you can finally serve again. God Bless.

I feel very sorry that your parents are so unyielding. As someone who is not so young, but young in the sense of being a Traditional Catholic in relative terms, I am so thrilled when I observe teenagers and other relatively young people so reverently attending the TLM. And to think that you have already been through the spiritually powerful experience of serving the TLM only to have that cut off from you. Try to reason with your parents, perhaps they will relent is my well meaning advice.

At 31, I’m a spiritual revert. My parish is NO, but very, very reverent and that led me to explore the TLM. I’m going to my first one tomorrow. I’ve been to a NO latin mass, and kind of found it hard to follow, but am always impressed by the reverence shown by the parishoners. I’m also engaged to be married, so no priesthood for me.

Lastly, south of 50 is young in my book. 50-80 is middle aged and anything north of 80 is old.

How many young traditionalists post on this site? Do you attend the Tridentine Mass? If you don’t, would you like to? Is there anyone who is considering becoming an FSSP Priest in the future?

I’m interested to see if there are any other young people who attend the Tridentine Mass on a regular basis like myself. What are your experiences? How many other young traditionalists do you know?

I started this thread to discuss the issues facing young traditionalist Catholics and also to see if there are many around. Please share your experiences, hopes, hopes for the future etc

I created a poll in this forum to see if we can get some more quantitative data on this. I think TLM is a youth movement that is growing fast. Which is good.

I’m 18, and I go to TLM as often as possible at a Norbertine Abbey near my house. I don’t know personally any young people who do the same, but I see others from time to time (often better dressed than me hehe)
