How much anointing is too much? Multiple times in a year?

My last surgery was December of 2015 and I was annointed. My next surgery is in a week. How often should I get annointed for this? Once a year? Before every surgery? What if I’m averaging two surgeries a year?

Being a convert I’m not sure what is typical. I don’t want to wear out my welcome with my parish priest! :o

Canon 1004.2 This sacrament can be repeated whenever the sick person again falls into a serious sickness after convalescence or whenever a more serious crisis develops during the same sickness.

Sounds like anointing is appropriate for you-- surgery followed by convalescence and now you have “fallen again into a serious sickness”… surgery is serious, there are always risks.

Go get anointed! 🙂

May you have a successful surgery and that God will be with you. Yes, you can have an anointing. :)👍

My take on it, having had surgeries: If they are going to whack me out before the surgeon picks up the scalpel, I am getting anointed. I don’t care about the statistics; I might be one. And that is why the sacrament is there.

Thanks everyone!

I went to confession yesterday and Father said he could meet me before mass to do the anointing. God bless our generous priests! :gopray:
