This has plagued me for years, and I’m not sure if it’s a temptation or a prompting.
But how much detail does one need to give in Confession? For example, I have been having disturbing thoughts. They come with a lot of anxiety, and some of them are sexual in nature. I do not want them, but sometimes, when I am in a situation, a fear suddenly comes over me and the worst thoughts come into my head. I know these things are irrational.
Do I need to say what the thoughts are, or just that I am having disturbing thoughts? I have confessed that I have had disturbing thoughts, without details, but the thoughts only got worse. Then I started wondering, do I maybe want these thoughts, subconsciously?
Also, there are some very complicated situations where I have sinned, but I don’t know exactly what the sin is. How do I confess this? If I told the whole story, I would be in the confessional forever, and yet, I’m not exactly sure where my sins fully are, but I know I have sinned.
