We spent $800 on the caterer, the hall was free! šŸ™‚

Gave our priest $200 as a gift, and a big basket of European foods, he was from Croatia.šŸ‘

I wore my Mother’s dress. šŸ™‚

Flowers were $200 they were potted Daisy Chrysanthemums, beautiful and ladies took them home and planted the in their gardens.

We went camping for our honeymoon, it was a blast. 😃 Campfires, holding hands under the stars, so romantic.

But best of all no debt! šŸ˜‰ We took to heart our Priest’s words that the wedding is one day, and our marriage would be many more.

$250. We didn’t take a honeymoon, we bought a house.

I can’t see spending any more than that as a sane decision.
So I guess we’re all crazy…

I’m my parents’ only child. They wanted us to have a nice wedding day, and as they’re both from 7-kid families, they knew that we’d have a big guest list due to that. We did as much as we could to keep costs down, but in my family (dad’s family especially) things like baptisms, first communions, weddings, are celebrated and something small without all the relatives would have been seen as insulting, and if we’d invited them and didn’t feed them a meal, that would have also been considered insulting. That’s just how my family is, so we couldn’t keep it in the three-figure range. 🤷

Those of us who accept the gift of a wedding from our parents aren’t spoiled (well, not all of us). We’re grateful. My parents got to do one last big thing for me, which made them happy, and DH and I had a lovely day without going into debt.

I think that regardless of who pays, it just such a great time! I love how weddings can be big or small, but we love 'em all!

Wow, things have gotten expensive eh? šŸ™‚ Back in 1989, my wife and I spent just under 5K on the wedding and honeymoon. This was roughly 150 people. The reception was in the church hall, and all had a FANTASTIC time!

I can’t really even comprehend having spent more than that. I mean wow, we didn’t even put $15,000 down on our first house!

My dad is one of 13  and my mom one of 11 . In my family as well, something small with no meal would have been considered insulting and they would have been worried about us and why we weren’t celebrating. šŸ™‚

Thanks for mentioning that not all who accept this gift from their parents are spoiled. 😃 I accepted a gift, I never asked for them to pay for anything. I am grateful, for the money they spent (the money I was able to save), and for the time they (well mom) spent planing with me and new things they learned (My dad learned how to decorate a cake so he could make ours because he wanted too!) to make this day special for us.

We had a $4,000 budget and ended up with enough left over to buy some small pieces of furniture and anything that we still needed for our new household that wasn’t gifted to us, including stocking our first pantry. So I’m guessing we made it on between $2,500 and $3,000. šŸ‘ Although our ā€œhoneymoonā€ was one night in a bed and breakfast.

I only have 53 days left :crying: I am going to miss wedding planning!
Nope, you won’t! And I’ll tell you why. Because the last couple of weeks before the wedding will be crunch time and you will be going CRAZY!!! :whacky: It is going to be such a wild ride, and you are going to be so happy after you pull it all off and can finally relax with that wonderful hubby you married and have so much fun deciding how to decorate your home together and put together your wedding scrapbook and write thank you notes that missing the wedding planning will be the last thing on your mind. šŸ™‚ :hug1:

Less than $2000.
What was your secret? We have a limit at 10,000 but are trying to stay as far below that number as possible. We are also buying a house this year and so we are thinking, ā€œDo we want a 5 course meal and free flowing wine? Or do we want a new sofa, washer, and dryer?ā€

Oh my goodness… I cannot believe how much some people spent on a DAY! Our wedding and honeymoon was under $2,000. We kept it simple, and it was much nicer than other family members’ extravagant events.

We just wanted to get married and get away for a little bit… and we did! There is no need to spend anywhere near $15,000! I can’t vote in the poll because the lowest option is just too far away from what we spent.

DH and I spent less than $500
$125 for the marriage license
$125 for the minister’s fees (we’re not catholic- we eloped)
$80 for a very nice dinner out
$150 for a fancy overnight hotel stay

well there were also the rings, but DH bought them and wouldn’t tell me what he spent šŸ˜›

However, ideally we would have done it a little differently. We were planning a $2000 ish wedding on May 31st this year. But we were having premarital sex and contracepting… and found ourselves expecting!

It’s so great how creative everyone is and how much variety we can have in our ideas of what makes a great event.😃
