How much do we do to achieve a successful life and how much do we simply trust God for?

I know that St. Augustine said to act like everything depended on us, but then to pray as if everything was due to God. I’m wondering what other Saints have said about this, or what you believe about this (and why).

The Saint’s saying makes sense.
It means to do our best and to trust God for the rest.

If we have worked all the work and prayed all the prayers, even things do not turn out as we want, we can have peace of mind. There may be disappointment, but there is no regret. We’ve done all we can – both work and prayer. God’s will is done. We can be grateful.

If things turn out as we wish, our joy is doubled - our efforts are blessed and rewarded, our prayers are answered favorably.

There is a similar Chinese saying: “盡人事,聽天命。”
It may be translated as “Exhaust human efforts and wait for heavenly fate.”

Unfortunately, I don’t seem to be able to “just” do my best - anxiety becomes the order of my day.

Try to pray that the Lord will heal you from anxieties. Trusting in the Lord is very difficult, even for those who do not suffer from anxiety. I think the saints mastered it by their constant time in prayer and that communication with God, allowed the good works and trust to surface. If you suffer from excessive anxiety, maybe some medications can help, but the best medicine is Jesus. I will keep you in my prayers. Remember, that we all suffer from anxiety sooner or later.

We all experience anxiety.

Here is a prayer may help:
"Just me, just now, with You, Jesus Christ."

Try to live for the present. When your heart feels anxious, say this short prayer. Practice the presence of God. Bring yourself very close to Jesus. It will help you receive His peace. It helps me.

God bless!

Trust God in all things regardless and strive to live the life you feel God has called you to live. In the difficulties of life, including anxieties, trust God still with many acts of trust, even though trust is not felt perhaps. Feelings can be such shifting matters and reasons for feelings can be complex and even perhaps indiscernable with accuracy, but no matter where our feelings may be and for whatever reason, God remains forever the Infinitely Trustable who never changes and is Eternally The Faithful One…and no feeling can alter that.

Blessings…Barb:)

i believe the moral lies in the decloration of independence sorry i have no biblical references in the independence it sais if you have the ability to do what is right against all odds you have the soul responsibility to go against all odds even against the government to keep our countries morals alive and well. this document has achieved unity in america so far.

**I would face that question from another direction, for there’s indeed terribly little we can do to achieve a successful life, other then “ora et labora”.

Life is never successful without God. What people call success; things like richness, wealth, might, adoration through fans, honour etc. doesn’t count before God. It’s nothing really.

There are poor, respected by nobody, even defied, but very successful in the eye of God.
Such people hardly have a favorite prayer, but they simply thank God for EVERYTHING over and over again, all day long, whatever they are doing, beginning in the morning, whn they thank God for this new day.
They thank for the sunshine as for the rain, for the beauty they are able to see and what ever. We as kids, where much surprised, when Grandma painfully hit her thumb with a hammer. We asked her; Now, why on earth did you say
“THANK YOU DEAR GOD”???
Well she replied: Much more could have happened, and I even might now have absolution for one little sin of mine.

To thank God for everything of however little the joy; - even the bypassing of a little butterfly, connects tighter to God and changes life completely.
Nothing, just nothing works right without God, but all is to it’s best if IN GOD WE TRUST.

And if there is a no-good feeling in our life, our health, our relations or whatever; let’s remember there are people who really would have reason to complain, but don’t.
We are lucky, if we “have” God! Let’s accomplish this first - and we’ll find. All worries will fall of us. Remember we will die once. What’s then of highest importance to us? Nothing, but our connection to God!

Hi “Brigid” 👋 I understand the question. And I’m sure that you will get many great answers. But the first thing that occurred to me was this…

That to be truly happy, the greatest success we should strive for on earth… is Heaven. And just leave the rest to Our dear Lord. For He has promised to take care of all our needs. God bless you. 🙂

as i remember one test from god if he asks you to cross a road because it safe look both ways for we are all fools and god likes a good laugh

so this is why the rule of the board dont write a post that god tells you to write

remember dont be foolish
