How much do you know about religion?

I did the 15 question test a few days ago and got 14/15, I overestimated the fundamentalist Atheists and was under the impression that using the bible for any reason, even a literary example, was barred in public schools.

I just took the full one, got 100%, keeping in mind that I learned from my failure in the previous quiz, so I only deserve 31.

I think people on this board are looking too deeply into the meanings of the questions.

Is that how it is in Canada? I took Bible as Literature at my public high school. 🤷
 
15 of 15-And no guessing, thank you very much. I actually knew all the answers. I liked the trick question about the Jewish Sabbath.

I have no idea actually, I went through private school so my school could have prayer and everything else that public schools aren’t allowed.

Thing is that unlike the United States, there is no constitutionally defined seperation of Church and State here. There is only the constitutional allowance that one can hold whatever beliefs they like.
 
12 / 15, quite honestly I’d never even heard of this “first great awakening”… I shouldn’t have, but I did miss the Sabath starting on friday evening (doh! yeah at sun down) and I guessed wrong about reading the bible in class as an example of litature. I still maintain that if a teacher did that with a athiest student in class they’d get resued.

When you answered, were you aware that Hinduism also teaches Nirvana as a state of enlightenment, bliss, and release from reincarnation (ie. end of suffering), and that Buddhism is derived from Hinduism, or did you just guess “Buddhism”, because it sounds right??

I’m looking for a fight here over the one I got “wrong”!

I knew Buddhism was the right answer because I’ve studied it. 👍
I did not know there were potentially two right answers :o

Didn’t know about Hinduism. But that lack of knowledge is not important since there is a difference between end of suffering and Buddha’s search for freedom from suffering.
Going for the key point makes me the winner.

The great Awakening got me. I kind of knew what is was about, but not the personalities involved. Since it was a Protestant movement I have never care to learn more about it since there are so many different Protestant groups with new programs and movements. Outside of Luther & Calvin in the vast Protestant universe I am not going to put much stock in learning about them; life is too short.

I lot of Agnostics are probably beating their chest proudly now. They got their proof of being smarter; poor us mentally challenged Christians:blush:.

Hinduism may have the concept of Nirvana, but in Buddhism it is the aim. As far as I’m aware it isn’t the “aim” in Hinduism.
 
Moksha is the aim of Hinduism, union with the unknowable Brahman. Nirvana is free of theistic notions and is more of an extinction of self. Moksha is extinction of attachments to this life and oneness with Brahman state. That’s the difference I’d characterize it by.

Ahem…For the reasons given by Edmundus, e.g., that Buddhism, being a derivative of Hinduism, entails the concept of nirvana as does its parent religion of Hinduism, I hereby grant myself a pass on “missing” that question; and declare myself perfect. Infallible. Wait…That’s that new lipstick by L’Oreal. How’s THAT for religious ignorance? Calling a lipstick “infallible.” Oy! Wow, I was shocked to see that Catholics (apart from the appalling transubstantiation ignorance) bottomed way out on JOB! Yipes! He was an archetype of Christ! And the book of Job mentions dinosaurs as extant with man. Me likey.

PS I just read about the Great Awakening…yesterday. It was in regards to a modern “Sons of God” take-over-the-world-for-Jesus movement innocuously called “The Family” The Family is an international group made up of Jesus-y movers and shakers in politics and business. The dreaded elite that considers itself the elect. Double oy!

Interesting that the best scores were from the Jewish and the non-believers. Only 59% of Catholics in the original quiz got the question right about what Catholics believe about the wine and bread turning into the actual body and blood of Christ

So, some surprises there. I got 100% but had to guess one of the questions, me not being read up on the early USA ‘Great Awakening’.
