How much does it cost to have a catholic therapist?

I’ve been planning on getting a Catholic therapist to help me with my various problems, but how much does it cost?

I’m a teenager and I’ve been contemplating getting some sort of spiritual direction for a long time because I really do need it.

Problem is…I don’t have a job or steady source of income. I was looking on the website https://www.catholictherapists.com but included in some of the therapist’s bios was the type of payment they take.

Not too sure what to do, or if i could afford it (they dont include a price) or if i have to pay at all.

I also live in Southern California, so any spiritual director or therapist recommendations would be very apprectiated!

In northern California, several counselors have quoted $150/session. However most offer discounts during Covid and /or if you have special circumstances. One Catholic therapist gave me sessions for $60/session but that is because I have a steady income. Please reach out to the Catholic therapists in your area, and most will modify payments to meet your needs since they truly want to help.

Also, when I was in school without a job, a spiritual director gave sessions for free. Priests will also do the same just call your parish office for an appointment

Call your diocese. I called mine and they set me up with a Catholic therapist on my insurance. Comes to only $20 per session 🙂
 
For finding a spiritual director, ask your priest. It will be free.

But it is likely that a Catholic therapist will be costy and it may be difficult for a teenager to afford. Ask your priest if there is any possibility for you according to your means.
 
There are also nuns and monks offering therapy. Some deacons have the possibility as well to help you. You never know their skills and gifts until you ask around. A lot of them had a life before they entered religious life which included higher education and work. 😄
 
Probably varies dramatically by the area. Do you mean a catholic spiritual counselor, or just a therapist who happens to be catholic?

Spiritual direction is usually something you’d approach a priest or a deacon for, not a therapist.

If she’s looking on the Catholic therapist site, the intent would be to find a therapist who incorporates the Catholic faith into the counseling process.

I second calling Catholic Charities. They often provide such counseling on a sliding scale.
