I have a friend of the opposite sex with whom I talk on frequent basis. Because of the way our lives are, that we are both very busy, we mostly communicate by chat. We have gone through periods where we only do so every couple of weeks, but now it seems (because of our schedules, I would assume) that we chat very frequently, on a daily basis almost. I personally have no problems with that- we both initiate about equally and talk about equally. We have many similar interests and discuss many things. I think it’s a companionable thing more than anything. Neither of us are very social and neither are actively looking for a potential spouse.

Is there any harm in this? We do care about each other, of course, or we wouldn’t be friends, but is there something I’m not seeing? I don’t think we are unduly attached to each other emotionally. While I am not looking for a spouse at this point, if he was to ask me out, I’d give it serious thought, because he is a wonderful man, but nothing has indicated that such would occur.

Someone told me that this is a bad idea and unnatural, or else that we are kidding ourselves that we aren’t interested in each other. Hence why I am asking.

Theres no harm in it…like you said …you are both friends and you both have busy lives and IMing is a way for you to stay in touch with your friend 🙂

No worries, no problem.
Lovely that each of you have a friend and a sounding board.
In this age of separateness…it’s still healthy to have a bond, even if it’s only through good conversation.
Peace to you.

It sounds like you two are friends, then. What’s wrong with that? 🤷

Thanks for the insight! I didn’t think that it was a problem, but I became concerned when I was told that it sounded like it. I think I’ll just ignore that individual.

ahhhhh, it was someone else who put this notion in play.
Jealousy rears its ugly head,
Be at peace.
