How much of the Bible do you take literally?

Eve is technically elided because there can be only one real original human person. Eve, who also committed the same sin of disobedience, is the second real person on earth.

According to Genesis, she was the second person, but actually the first sinner. I find Paul’s removal of her from the story to be disturbing.

CAF is a wonderfully interesting place. One can always find an opposite opinion. Some years back, a poster complimented me for just talking about Adam. She said she was tired of people blaming women for the evil in the world.

You are right that Eve committed the first personal sin that we know of. However, the whole humankind is in Adam “as one body of one man.” (Information source. CCC, 404; St. Thomas Aquinas, De Malo 4, 1.) It was Adam’s job to either leave his relationship with his Creator or to maintain this relationship.

There is an interesting sentence in CCC, 396. It makes sense. Still, I would like more details.

“Man is dependent on his Creator, and subject to the laws of creation and to the moral norms that govern the use of freedom.”

I can understand how Paul’s removal of Eve could be disturbing. I would immediately question why since Adam and Eve were made for each other. CCC, 369-376 has some sound information on that subject. I doubt that St. Paul had a vision of the 20th century problems connected with the origin of the human species. Yet, he instinctively treats Adam in the singular.
