How much of the Catechism of the Catholic Church applies to Anglicanism

I’ve been on the fence choosing between Catholic and Anglican churches for some time. I was brought up Episcopal and recently I’ve decided to give the Anglican Church in America a chance.

During this process I’ve read several Catholic Catechisms and I’m generally in tune with most of what it says. How much of the Catechism of the Catholic Church is applicable towards the Anglican church?

The question isn’t a matter of “which works best for me.” The question is “Where is Truth.”

As a convert from Anglicanism, I found that the Catechism of the Catholic Church expressed perfectly the faith as I had known, loved and practiced it as an Anglican, with the exception of the character of papal authority and jurisdiction and the elevation of the Marian dogmas (which I did believe) to the same level of faith as the articles of the Creed. We had figured out that the Catholic teaching on contraception was right long before the idea of converting ever came up.

What finally took me across the Tiber was a question the Lord whispered to me one night in prayer:

If you believe that your church has Apostolic Succession, yet Peter is not in your House of Bishops, what kind of game are you playing?"

It was agony for me to leave the denomination that had given me so much, that had nurtured my faith in Jesus Christ and gradually introduced me to a full form of catholic worship and teaching, where I had so many friends.

But it was WORTH it!

I believe high church Anglican and Catholic beliefs are about 80 to 90 % compatible. But someone should made a study.

It depends on which Anglican you ask. For Anglo-Catholics, probably most of it. For liberals and evangelicals, less. The one systematic Anglican response to the Catechism I know of is this one by a fairly liberal priest of the Church of England. Needless to say, it does not speak for all Anglicans–not for me, and certainly not for the ACA which you are thinking of joining! In fact, on issues such as Biblical criticism it is common for Continuing Anglicans to criticize Roman Catholics as too liberal.
