How much power is given to witches or demons?

I don’t expect evil powers to manifest themselves in an over the top special effects way. I suspect they do sutle things to influence us to seperate from God. Sometimes they just cheer us on if we are already doing their bidding. In my opinion, it would hurt a demon to openly manifest itself because by demonstrating it’s existence, by default it would further demonstrate the existence of God.

This is true although they normally manifest themselves to people who already have belief in God like Padre Pio.
 
Actually I think I did some checking and there is a good reason to suppose that angels cannot be proved by reason alone.
 
They will have as much power as you are willing to give to them.

The devil appeared to a saint like the Cure of Ars because it knew his faith was unshakable. 🙂
 
I would like to clarify when I mention about an evil entity revealing itself. Yes, I agree many individuals have been tortured by and or seen demons. But it appears to me these cases were discrete one on one case. What I mean is like in a mainstream way. I guess kind of like if one day, a national leader gives a press conference to tell us people from outerspace are here and introduces one on live TV. Not that I am eager to ever see something like this happen, but I don’t know of any such incident.

For educational purposes, any specific reading recommendations from historically reliable sources are appreciatted.
 
For hundreds of years sleepers were regularly molested by an incubus or a succubus (depending on the victim’s gender).

Reports of attacks by these heterosexual, sex demons aren’t at all common any more - as far as I am aware. Why? Because they were a figment of our over-active imagination. An imagination that has more recently spawned the terror of alien abductions.

Perhaps I am wrong but I don’t think believing in hordes of demons is essential to belief in God?

May I answer this question as I believe. Neither devil nor witch has any ability to cause effects on the faithful. Scripture says God felt no need to detract the demon i.e. Satan when God approached this demon in the Book of Job concerning Job’s lack of understanding towards his children and their wayward behavior. God replied that Satan had no power over the faithful servant Job, verse 12.

An example of witchery is in 1 Samuel. Saul and the Witch of Engor argued for a few moments about her ability of congeries then in the presence of Saul the king, footnote[28:15–19]? Though later detracting his commitment to the Lord and Mosaic law towards sorcery, Saul had defeated the witch in the beginning of his reign simply by their elimination and their warlike behavior towards the Almighty God.

I believe these two excepts show that demon or witches have no power over the faithful, but witches, etc. serve another god. And, because the word ‘power’ is introduced to us through pagan worship as the severity of the Almighty God over these tormentors, that, again, the two have no power as they see power as from Our God. That is my feeling. 🤷🙂

IE-I think in 99.9 percent of cases, witches and demons aren’t the cause of whatever is bothering someone. There is a natrual explanation. Therefore, “they” don’t have alot of power.

I’ve heard people blame many things on spellcasters/demons. Well, your free to believe whatever you want, but it gives them much more power than they actually have.
 
No matter how much power they have, God has more power.

The best way to fight off evil, is with good. Pray and ask for God’s help. Demons and witches are powerless over Jesus’ name.

Ask for the Blessed Virgin Mary to pray for you. The rosary is a powerful weapon against evil. Also, ask for **St. Michael the archangel’s ** intercession.

Agreed. People you can quote religious leaders, saints, the Bible, even the Catechism for all I care.

However, until you can show to the world a witch/wizard capable of annihilating the entire U.S. Army via rain of fire/undead army/rampaging dragons/demonic horde/killer tornadoes (at least) with nothing but a wooden stick and a big book, stop giving too much credit to the superstitious.

By “the” devil, do you mean Satan?

Well, we know he has the power to potentially steal, kill, and destroy our souls.

I know of no reference to witches, in the Bible.

Historically, witches are women possessed by one or more demons.

Demons, under rule of Satan, are purposed with his same potential.

Thankfully, the snake’s head (demon or Satan) is under our feet, if we are filled with the Holy Spirit. 🙂
