I think catholics should be concerned with this matter. Many times we are lured to many things in life. While these things may or may not be evil by nature, many tend to make us think that this Catholic life is too strict and eventually quit. Few years ago a Vicar General said in his homily that watching people being baptised by himself reminded him that more and more Catholics are disappearing each year. Which, is pretty sad. Personally, I think it is one of the major issues the church (and us) have to deal with; these “former” catholics somehow became the stereotypical for non-members of the Catholic church. And these people are perhaps the most damaging to our faith.

Think about how many Catholics around you support homosexuality. Think about how many Catholics think that contraception is ok. Think about how many Catholics actually attend mass. There is a anecdote in a homily that reads along the lines of:
“Satan hits us at the most vulnerable times. A couple was catholic and faithful, but busy. So Satan would try to convience them that church prayers and activities such as eucharistic adoration are not essential or useful. Then the couple may start to think that it is ok to miss mass. They will pray less, and at some point Satan will be able to persuade them to leave the faith.”

So how we protect our faith is the topic to be discussed here. For example, the priest suggests that the newly baptised should not hesitate to join the spiritual communties around them.

How should we, as Catholic Christians, hold tightly to our faith in the pressence of other religions, modernism, and contemporary evil?

I think one of the most important ways is to become friends with as many people in your congregation as you can. This way the faith can spread all throughout the week among each other and to more people. Our circle of friends needs to become more Catholic. This way those friends of ours that aren’t Catholic can see the importance that we place our faith in our lives. Like mindedness has an uncanny ability to spread like wildfire. So many Catholics go to Mass every week and have no interaction with other people other than the sign of peace. This is something that needs to change. If every person would just introduce themselves to 2 different people each week at Mass, great things would happen. We need to learn to stop putting so much emphasis on ourselves and show more love to neighbor.

Prayer and self denial are the ways against the Satan

Matthew 17:20 But this kind is not cast out but by prayer and fasting.
