How often do miracles occur?

The classical view of a miracle is God intervening and the “impossible” happens. Even the falling rain would have been a miracle to the ancient peoples. It’s not that we are smarter just we now have better tools to determine cause and effect. But does my looking at events as God acting, make them less of a miracle? If you consider any event that displays the power of God in action as a miracle, there are miracles all around us. I see the miracle in the sun rise each day, for when scientific tools explain to me how precise the orbit of this earth has to be to keep us from either freezing up or frying, the morning sun rise takes on the meaning of a miracle. When you consider how tightly our body chemistry is balanced where by tipping the pH one way or the other = we will no longer be alive enjoying the beauty around us, each morning as i wake up is a new miracle.
As others have said there are miracles every day if you are willing to see the power of God in the event.

I would have felt better checking Sometimes, but I checked Very Frequently. The reason: because the definition of “miracle” seems to include that they are rare events, and the creative activity of God is what He does continuously. So, I guess, He performs miracles continuously, would have been the best answer.

I hesitated over “very frequently” because I prefer “constantly” but on another thread it was interpreted as “always” (like “continuously”!). God does always sustain everything that exists but I had specific interventions in mind and they obviously don’t occur for everyone whenever there is a disaster.

Define miracle. A child being born is a miracle to some- the creation of new life, the formation of the foetus inside the womb, growing from a microscopic cell to a beautiful, innocent child? Is that not a miracle? The face that we can go on every day, our bodies supported by little more than tiny tubes carrying liquid around our body? I feel that life IS a miracle, so I say a miracle is happening all the time.

Welcome to the forum - an excellent post! 🙂

I should have specified “a suspension of the laws of nature” in the OP.

Welcome to the forum! 🙂 I have just anticipated your question but I’m glad I did so - otherwise you wouldn’t have made such an excellent contribution to the thread. 👍

It’s really impossible to know unless God says he did it.
Welcome to the forum! 🙂

When the Church recognises two miracles and canonises a saint we can be sure very stringent conditions have been satisfied and the event is scientifically inexplicable.

To me all the evidence and reasoning seems to suggest God works miracles very rarely if at all.

Jesus cured a lot of blind men in the Gospels. Do you think that they were only physically blind? 😉

Maybe you’ll be the subject of a miracle some day.

Yes, but if God Perfectly wills a thing from all infinity - I dare not use the word “eternity” around these parts (considering how easily it is misunderstood) - then even a disaster is a miracle, is it not? We certainly don’t know His rationale, but, we can be sure of one thing, He has a rationale. Do you think otherwise?

Well I assume the ones he is described as curing were physically blind.

And I’d love to be a subject of a miracle, now *that *would be interesting

Which is it be - in your considered opinion? 🙂
Well since you didn’t answer my question of whether God’s existence is miraculous or not, I’ll just give my uneducated opinion.

The tended belief is that miracles are out of the ordinary or divine, but is this really true? My biggest what if belief leans towards them actually being out of the ordinary. Perhaps these miraculous moments that occur so frequently are actually nature traits to nature, but they are still unknown phenomenons to science.

Do you think our future as a race will produce miraculous products? We are entering an era were possibly in the next few generations we will be able to produce our own foods as in meat, produce new bodily organs, and be able to rewrite the human genomes.

I think nature behaves in a way that is still very unknown to scientist as well as other enthusiasts.

Yes, they were physically blind, and Jesus gave them a wonderful gift, a miracle, the ability to see physical things.

But Jesus also gave them an even bigger gift, also a miracle. The ability to see spiritually. The blind man in Jericho threw off his cloak, and followed Jesus. The reason was not that he needed more physical curing. He was leaving everything he had (his cloak) behind, so that he could follow the now “visible” Jesus to eternal life.

Note that he (and most of those who were cured) ASKED Jesus for it. Sometimes very persistently. They had much faith.
And I’d love to be a subject of a miracle, now *that *would be interesting
Have you tried asking for the gift of spiritual sight? Persistently? With much faith?

Please give reasons for your view.
A miracle, by definition, is not a routine event. If something happens everyday, such as transubstantiation, it is not a miracle. A ‘daily miracle’ is a contradiction, like ‘an expected surprise’.

A miracle is generally regarded as an exceptional event but if every moment is a miracle it is the rule rather than an exception! But of course in that case I’m not using miracle in the sense of “a suspension of the laws of nature”!

I don’t think transubstantiation ceases to be a miracle because it happens every day (or minute). The True Presence of Jesus is extraordinary by any standards… 🙂
