How often do we pray without realizing it?!

Just for your info -
I woke up this morning starting to say this prayer - even before my Morning Offering - Couldn’t quite remember it (have to get it down pat) but it’s a combination - of the **mind waking **and saying the prayer - and perhaps the soul’s desire to say it. Thanks for sharing that prayer.

I agree, the mind and soul are one and should not operate apart from one another. But are they operating separately if a person learns to recite prayers throughout the day without necessarilly stopping to formally think of each word? If we have the correct disposition in our life, even when we find ourselves saying a prayer without even realizing it, that prayer can be meaningful.

Also, a mind which engages in rote prayer without thought may belong to a person who spends much time in conscious prayer. What comes to mind outside of conscious prayer is that with which it’s familiar. Better random thoughts of prayer than random inappropriate thoughts.

Amen! (And aren’t we exhorted to ‘pray without ceasing, to render constant thanks’ anyway?!? )
As someone who has awakened dozens of times with a prayer on my lips, I consider it a true grace - especially when it is spontaneous and not rote.
