Well said.I make it a point to go every two weeks, even if I do not have any mortal sin to confess. And I go for the grace that comes from every sacrament, not to mention confession. I like to obtain supernatural help while I am still on earth. After we die it will be too late. We need it for everyday living.
To continue on what I said about this years ago … if God wants us to go from point A to point B, and we needed a crutch, He would be a cruel God if He did not provide us a crutch. But He is a good God. Well, point A is the earth and point B is heaven, and we need some aid because of original sin and the devil, without which a good Christian life would be exceedingly hard and practically impossible. Hence, 2000 years ago Christ instituted confession (among other sacraments) . So, instead of worrying about “impending” doomsdays, it is up to us to make use of confessions.I make it a point to go every two weeks, even if I do not have any mortal sin to confess. Yes, but these people are most likely saints and also most likely had a very sensitive disposition to sin, more than any one of us. There is a term for this and it’s not coming to mind right now, but it’s very common among the saints. St. Thomas Aquinas went to confession daily. This is a calling to these people who most likely needed an inordinate amount of grace to persevere in their mission to the Church and to God. Not all of us are called to this kind of heroic dedication.Who is it that is discouraging you? Point out to them that JP2 went three times a week and Mother Theresa went every day.
Me, too. I didn’t go for 8 years. Then I would go every year or two. Then one of my children asked me why we only went once a year. Can you think of a good answer for that? So we started to go every 3 months or so. This year, I’m trying to trim it to every 2 months. I thought I would run out of stuff to say going that often, but sadly, I haven’t. My part of the world is heavily Catholic, but I know very few people in real life who “believe” in confession. They look at me like I’m a little crazy. DH doesn’t get it, either.Okay, so I guess I’m making some improvement.
