How often do you go to confession?

Every 3-4 weeks. That is about when I start feeling pretty darn yucky!
Thank God (literally) for Confession!

I go to weekly confession and have for about 7 years. Upon my reconversion, at the hands of Our Lady in 1994, I went to monthly confession but after a couple years, that moved to every 3 weeks.
Then I read about indulgences!!! To earn a plenary indulgence, one must be within the octave (8 days before or after) confession.
I can offer these indulgences for the poor souls in purgatory! There are other requirements of course and we can look at them if need be but that was the reason for me going every other week. I jsut ask Our Lady to apply the plenary indulgence to my poor soul on the day I die! I attend Holy Mass daily and pray the rosary and the Blessed Sacrament and make the stations of the Cross.

Then the second week between confessions started to get long. And I began to go weekly. Then I discovered the way to live my Franciscan vocation as a Tertiary and my Order desires weekly confession.

Thanks be to God for the Sacraments!
Ave Maria! 👍

Now I feel awful… I fell like the folks in the middle ages… I go to confession once or twice a year whether I need to or not… the folks here are saints by comparison… when I was having more personal problems (thankfully years ago) I went as much as once a week.

Once a week at college, because our priest has an hour for confessions before Mass, and few people show up so I can go and get good sound advice. When I’m not at college, still usually once a week, but the lines are longer and there’s usually not time to get good spiritual direction (but sometimes those priests astound you!).
Rock,

I am thinking of going to Confession once a week, I wonder if you could help me since you already practise this. Do you ever feel as though you have a difficult time recognizing your sins when you confess so frequently? If you do, how do you recognize them? Do you do a daily examination of conscience?
This is one thing that I am worried about, also I am worried that my Priest will get annoyed or ‘fed up’ with my exersizing this Sacrament so frequently.

Thanks for your time.

Blessings,
Jade.

Weekly confession is hard. Yes, daily examination of conscience is most helpful but I do not always do it. You begin to really peel back the layers! Deliberate mortal sins are pretty much nonexistant and as time goes on, deliberate venial sins become that way too.

We begin to see our imperfections in a new light. Are we harboring any bitterness or anger or resentment? Have we been forgiving? Where have we lacked charity or said biting or hurtful things? Where have we spoken in detraction? Have we passed along the dirty joke? Have we read ‘dirty’ books or magazines or been to such websites? Do we dress modestly? Have we wasted a lot of time–perhaps watching too much TV? Have we been faithful to our duties in our state of life?

So many deeper ways to look into ourselves and see how to become more pleasing to God. I have only had one priest give me grief about frequent confession and since I am a Franciscan Tertiary, I told him it is the recommened frequency of the Order.

In the old days, people often went to weekly confession and monthly was the lesser standard!

If a priest gives one grief about these Sacraments of Devotion, find another confessor who understands this means of seeking grace and holiness.

Ave Maria!

I go whenever I need to, which is unfortuneatly sometimes as often as once a week. How often do people go if they haven’t committed any mortal sins?

Dear Ave Maria!

Thank you for your post. I found it most helpful!

Blessings,
Jade

I usually go every Saturday morning at 7:30, just before 8 am mass.
