How often do you pray for your enemies?

And what type of pray do you pray?

Everyday in my Holy Rosary intentions. Our enemies, most likely, are in most need of our prayers!

All the time. I unite myself to Christ and ask Him to save all people, including my enemies. I do not pray this with words but with the desires and intentions of my heart.

I have no enemies. Love one another As I have loved you

Why do you have enemies

I consider myself lucky that I haven’t really made any enemies as an adult

How often do you pray for your enemies?
About every time there is a thread on CAF about the death of a terrorist, mass murderer, dictator, villain, criminal, or celebrity. Otherwise somewhat rarely.
And what type of pray do you pray?
May he or she rest in peace in the glorious presence of God.

Maybe then they will pray for us.

Not often enough, but one of my favorites is actually from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer:

O God, the Father of all, whose Son commanded us to love our enemies: Lead them and us from prejudice to truth: deliver them and us from hatred, cruelty, and revenge; and in your good time enable us all to stand reconciled before you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Anglican prayer tradition is beautiful, even if I don’t always agree with its theology. Still, all truth is God’s truth and this prayer moves my heart.

I think my only real enemy is Satan and my and my own weak self, so I pray a lot!

I will say, Satan, encompasses quite a lot in this larger world. I am not sure what I should pray for regarding all that, but, I do, sort of.

Friendly Aside:

Enemy (n): a person who is actively opposed or hostile to someone or something.
Persecute (v): subject (someone) to hostility and ill-treatment

2 Timothy 3:12
Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

Matthew 12:30
“Whoever is not with Me is against Me…”

On a regular basis. I consider “my enemies” to be my personal enemies, i.e. people who have caused me upset or harm in my life. I generally say the Divine Mercy for them if they are still alive, and if they die I try to get a plenary for them. I have a spreadsheet for this exercise with places to put names and their relationship to me (like friend, enemy, former teacher, former boss, grandfather, etc) so I try to get some of each and mix them up. If I am saying extra rosaries or Divine Mercies in the car I might designate one as being for my enemies generally or for a specific person or group of people.

I also pray for mass murderers and murderers and such from time to time, but unless they are an enemy of my country like Osama or have killed my family member or friend , I don’t consider a murderer “my enemy” as he did not do anything to me specifically. I actually have known some murderers on a friendly /professional basis also.

It can be very hard to pray for an enemy because I have to think about them and try to remember God loves them for the length of the Rosary or Divine Mercy. I got a Pardon Cross last year and made it my last year’s Lent project to work on forgiving my enemies so I have been plugging away at this ever since.

Locating ones true enemy is nearly impossible. That is why we pray for the rebuking of Satan.

I pray for patience and understanding, for surely they must be hurting on some level.
In some cases I know this for sure to be the case. Bullies and “enemies” often seem to be driven by their own personal demons, jealousies and fears of inadequacy. Several people who persecuted me over the long term were diagnosed mentally ill and another who caused me much upset is now in a severely disabled physical state.

I rather pray for people I come in conflict with. I don’t know if they are truly my enemies or there is a misunderstanding in the middle. But not just everyone and every small conflict. Persistent conflict or somewhere I perceive there is a conflict or they don’t like me and such.
