I guess he is supposed to be praying in tongues?
Is the language used while praying in tongues an actual language which is spoken today or has been spoken in the past or is the language used more or less gibberish, or at least seems like it because it cannot be translated faithfully to the English language. It does not have to be translated specifically to English, but could be Portuguese, Chinese, Catalonian, Vietnamese, Swedish, etc any recognized language.

I laughed hard at that last line

Great story
My dad thought he could beat the Devil out of me. I currently work for DHR. I maintain the Software the Social Workers use. Maybe one day before my dad passes away and before he loses faculties, I will enlighten him on what DHR does to parents like him. Or maybe not, let Purgatory take care of that reckoning…

I too know many Priests & lay Catholics who have been blessed with the “gift of tongues”. I have been to many Charismatic Masses & heard the gift spoken by Priests & lay alike.
Were they in adherence to Biblical Law?

Orderly Worship
1Co 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
1Co 14:27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
1Co 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God

God requires discipline and order…

Or were they rogue?

They call it Holy Intoxication or being drunk in the Spirit, somewhat similar to being “slain in the Spirit”.

I believe it is purely emotional and not spiritual. If it is spiritual at all its demonic.

You made me laugh again… ever seen the painter Bob Ross? When he cleans his paintbrush he goes “now beat the devil outta it”

Yes you do believe this.
My experience is like in 1 Sam 19- 19-23

But meeting prophets is a daunting experience.

Every Catholic is a Prophet in a way.

Every time a Catholic teaches from Scripture or Sacred Tradition he is prophesying.

True prophecy does not mean predicting the future, though it doesn’t preclude it either. Prophesying means to speak the Words of God with power and conviction.

Here’s a video illustrating two Protestant-Pentecostal phenomena, one called being “drunk in the spirit”, the other being “holy laughter”.

Warning: the video is bizarre, interesting, embarrassing, funny, and shocking all at the same time.

They are definitely not “rouge”. The Charismatic Movement has been recognized & accepted by the Holy See.

A member of my husband’s immediate family once uttered a phrase in a language I did not recognize as earthly. We were praying a rosary together, my husband, his family and I, and in the middle of a prayer, without missing a beat, this person said something I did not recognize. This individual is someone I know well, and is a very spiritual person who also has the gift of discernment of spirits, often being able to tell where one is in their spiritual journey without really knowing the person well. I don’t know how often it had happened before, but considering how very close this person is to Christ, I have a hard time believing it originated from anything other than the Holy Spirit.

From fisheaters.com:

Matthew 24:24
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

It is important to test the spirits and not devalue reason and doctrine! Know that the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance according to Galatians 5:22-23. The fruits of the Spirit are not out of control shaking, screaming, running around, falling down, “holy laughter,” vocalizations that don’t edify the Church, a “feeling” that doctrine and religion are now unimportant, etc. One should be more in control of one’s self after an encounter with the Holy Spirit, not less.

I had a very close friend who spoke Hebrew. When he went into a Charismatic church, he would pretend to speak in tongues and ‘speak’ a ‘revelation from God’ in Hebrew. If someone came out with an ‘interpretation’ of the ‘revelation,’ he would know whether or not the ‘interpretation’ was made up or not. This was his personal test.
I still have contacts in the Pentecostal community locally, and still attend some special services (homecoming / cemetary decoration services where relatives are buried, etc.). I also speak multiple foreign languages. I have thought about doing something like this, but haven’t had the chutzpah to actually do it yet 😃

Our God is not a God of confusion. I have not seen disorder in any Catholic Charismatic session.

There is more than one phenomenon involved. (And in this I speak under correction should any more knowledgeable see any error in my words.)
Some speak in a foreign language under the influence of the Holy Spirit. (And some have the gift of Interpretation when this is done.).
Some pray in the Spirit, which might not be in a known language. The spirit intercedes for us by speaking when we do not know what to say.

Holy spirit Being over powered drunk is a real phenomenon. As was laughing .
I watched jimmy swaggart preach against it as it was happening. In his church.

And his complaing that preaching was as tough as plowing concrete.

Actually, that was pretty cute. Thanks for brightening my day.

Blessings, Stephie

Do you have solid verification of this or is this just anecdotal? For example, can you give a link to a recording of such an event?

I consider the teachings of my church to be solid verification. I gather that you do not but I’m not interested in searching out links.

So
I consider the teachings of my church to be solid verification… I’m not interested in searching out links.
So you have no recordings or evidence that would convince a skeptic that an english speaking person who had no knowledge of Albanian, or Chinese, etc., was in fact speaking coherently in that language of which he had no previous knowledge and he is not speaking gibberish?
I think a skeptic or an atheist would be very interested in seeing something like this occurring? This would most definitely be a miracle and I suspect many people would want this investigated and confirmed.
