Thank you for posting this video. He is a compelling speaker, for sure. The Ted Bundy piece is a chilling detail that I had not heard about.
It’s fair to say that I never felt that I did the rosary correctly, for in all my early years of catholic education, I was never taught how to pray a rosary… I got many as gifts and always had one nearby… but I never knew if I was doing it “right” - when I stopped attending church, I actually felt a relief, that I could now pray on my rosaries (and various chaplets) without fear of doing them wrong. It sounds strange, because I stopped trying to conform to something that I didn’t really understand (and felt the need to begin exploring it for myself) - so I stopped “doing” the rosary upon leaving the church, but then started exploring it. (I’m having a hard time actually articulating this, lol…)
This age of information, where we can pray with an app, has shown me that there are a lot of “right” ways.
I have been reading all sorts of things about rosaries (and prayer beads) lately. It’s amazing at just how many different prayers have been adapted to various numbers of decades on the beads themselves. And it seems that there is an explosion of creative options when choosing a personal set.
So, how important is it that the beads be blessed? I read somewhere that blessings may not be purchased, (so blessed beads can’t be bought), but a rosary can be purchased, then blessed before shipped - like those sold by the Vatican online shop.
I know that one does not need a set of beads to pray, yet there is something more that seems to happen when holding them with the intent to pray … so how important is it that they actually be blessed?
I am not intending to derail the poll thread … please direct me elsewhere if this isn’t the right place to ask.
