How Often Do You Receive The Sacrament Of Penance?

Other than the Holy Eucharist, the Sacrament of Penance has become one of my favorite sacraments. I usually go every two weeks. I sometimes think I may have a tinge of scrupulousity but feel that’s if safer to err by going too much than by not going enough.

I don’t understand why so many Catholics don’t take advantage of this wonderful sacrament. I frequently tell others that for me, it’s like a “shower for my soul.” I wouldn’t go a day without taking a shower to scrub my body clean, why wouldn’t I want to ensure my soul is clean before the Lord?

I’m just curious if I’m out of the norm, or if more Catholics think as I do.

I have been receiving once a year. I am looking at trying to break out that stage
 
I usually try to go once a month, but sometimes it winds up being every 2 months. Last time I went was before the Palm Sunday Vigil. After confession, Father wrangled me into helping him get the palms outside for the blessing.😃

I try for every couple of months, plus extras if I feel the need. The beginning of Mass (as I understand it) takes on and asks for forgiveness of the venial sins.
 
Penance? Oooh! I’ve never heard it called that! Mostly, it’s refered to as “Reconciliation”. I like the idea of penace, but all they ever give is prayers or…“Do a good deed.” sigh

I try to go every week. Because I sin mortally every day. So I’d go every day if I could, but I can’t, so I don’t. Haven’t gone in the past few weeks though…time constaints, despair, and a general lack of progress in overcoming evil. I also have a deal of trouble holding onto contrition throughout the week. Tuesday, I’m plenty sorrowful. By Saturday, I’m looking at my sin objectively, rationally, legalistically, seeing how I might better overcome it…It fails to horrify! I feel wretched and ugly, but…to empty for sorrow.
 
I try to go about every 6 weeks. I went mid-lent and then took my kids on the Saturday before Palm Sunday. When I took them, I went, too, so that was a 3 week interval.
 
I go weekly.
Although I have been accused of scrupulosity at times, I love the sacrament and go to try and overcome specific sins. I don’t understand why more folks don’t go either! Its great! 😃

I have an odd pattern, because I sing the Saturday vigil Mass at one parish every other month, and my confessor is at another parish, hearing confessions at the same time as the Mass I’m singing. So I go two or three times during my month off from singing, and the eve of First Friday on the month that I do sing. Sometimes there are other opportunities, like during this past Lent, when our Archdiocese did a program called “The Light Is On For You,” which had every parish open for confessions every Wednesday night. And this Sunday, of course, is Divine Mercy Sunday, and one of the celebrations will be at my confessor’s parish, so that looks good for me, even though it’s my month to sing.

At other times in my life, I’ve gone much less frequently - maybe every two months or even every six. That doesn’t work out so well for me - it’s really difficult to get that examination of conscience together.

Not often enough!😦 I have made an intention to go monthly, on the first Saturday. Please pray that I can do it!

it varies i had been going every 6 to 8 weeks though recently it’s been once a month though the last time was after only 2 weeks 😊 go as often as you need to
my penance is normally a bible readings
 
After the example given by the late Holy Father John Paul II, I try to go weekly.
