How often do you serve in your parish?

Do you serve often, are you somewhat in the middle, or do you serve very seldomly in your parish? The Mass I normally go to doesn’t have that many volunteers, so I’m on the sanctuary practically every week. I don’t mind it though. 😃 If you don’t serve that much, do you wish that you could serve more, or do you feel like you “do your time”?

five days a week. I’m beat!
 
I’m a lector, cantor, and “unofficial” Eucharistic Minister (only unofficial because I’m not in the cycle, but I fill in for my parents or whenever not enough people get up there). It’s always a surprise when there’s a week I’m not doing anything!

I enjoy doing all these things, and I feel privileged that I get to do it so frequently. But, I’m only 18, so I always worry a bit that I seem like I’m doing it all for the sake of appearances. I’m thinking of taking a step back, maybe choosing just one thing to do. Only problem is that I love all of it! 😃
 
I read the readings pretty much every week, depending on how many others they have to do it (it varies greatly, which is sad). It’s an honour to read the word of God, I love doing it!
 
We have 70+ altar boys at our Sunday Masses ( only about a dozen or so on the weekday Masses). My son servers at every Mass he attendes ( as does just about every boy 5-18)

One of the senior altar boys will do the readings instead of serve, that that is covered.

I don’t sing well enough to cantor. And the girls of the parish form the choir.

And we don’t use EMHC’s at our parish. (well technically we do have one, an ordained Chalean SubDeacon).

So I serve by helping my wife watch the younger kids 🙂
 
I serve every Sunday, and at the occasional weekday Mass at our cathedral parish. We use the “come one, come all” method for Sunday servers, so sometimes we have 5, and sometimes, like during lent, we have 15. Yesterday, we had ten, but we tend to get more when the bishop celebrates than when the rector celebrates.

I’m usually the MC organizing these boys, and occasionally, not at Sunday Masses, but at other Masses when I serve, I assist as psalmist, and sing the psalm.

poll makes no sense, no definition of what often or seldom mean.
assisting in liturgy is only one of dozens of way to serve the parish.
the lay Catholic can go his whole life never taking an active ministerial role assisting at Mass and be completely fulling actively participating in liturgy.

No one is saying that is a bad thing. The OP is just curious.
 
Every day and four times a weekend(the little ones need an older person to guide them). Serving at the altar has become such an integral part in the way I participate at Mass. I love it. Sometimes I think I take it for granted though.

Presently, I joined the 11.30 am Mass Music Ministry Team at St. Francis Xavier Church, out of the 6.45 am, 8.30 am and 5.30 pm and Sunset Saturday at 6.15 pm. There are a lot of activities in my Church. Can’t cope up with it as at sometimes clashes with each other. Sometimes, I do attend more than one mass, then I can helped out as one of the warden, or helped in promoting charity, fund raising, recruiting for members. Also attend courses held by the Church like how to read the liturgy at mass, etc.

We practise Hymns at 10.30 am before Mass. I participated in hymns selections for the next few months, according to the mass theme held on that day. At least twice a month we do have group practises at one of the member’s home in the evening beside the weekly Sunday practises.

On feast days, we also joined other team members to sing together but divided into two teams for two masses e.g. 7.30 pm and 11.30 pm.

why not share all the ways one can participate in parish life and service? I don’t understand the implication of the poll and thread title combined that how often you serve in an active role in liturgy, but the ministry and the frequency, are somehow a measure of something

but I will take this opportunity to thank those who serve, particularly those who share their musical gifts

I had no intentions for this thread to offend anyone. I was just asking those that serve in the parish how often they are put on the schedule and if they want to serve more in their parish. I don’t have any intentions on degrading anyone who doesn’t serve in their parish. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
 
I serve whenever possible, in various ministries.

Every other Saturday, I am an altar server at the Saturday vigil Mass. I also serve Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday (if I am not involved in another ministry at those liturgies). I have also served at Ascension, weddings, funerals, and many other Masses.

Every three months or so, I am a student lector. I read yesterday at Pentecost. I have also read for weddings and funerals. When I am confirmed (in two–and–a–half years), I will take the diocesan course on lectoring, as only confirmandi can take the course, and become a certified lector.

When I am 18 (I am 15 now), I will take a course to become certified in my diocese as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, as one must be 18 to be an E.M.H.C. in my diocese.

I am also in a choir that is being organized now. I’d like to cantor someday.
 
I have voted ‘seldomly’ because there was no option to vote ‘never’.

The question is vague. I have taken it in its literal sense to mean serve as in an altar server. I am not an altar server so I never serve.
 
I serve at my parish usually 2-3 times per week - weekdays and Holy Days and the like, not usually on Sunday because we have a small sanctuary and lots of servers on Sundays. (I’m in charge of our altar servers.) Once in a while I will serve as MC, like during Holy Week.
I also serve usually 1-2 times per week at Low Mass in the Extraordinary Form at the FSSP chaplaincy in Lexington.
On occasion I will serve as lector, or as Rosary leader before Mass.
I have never served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and I don’t plan to. I’m not an usher or greeter or in the choir either.
 
I JUST was trained in EOMHC and Lectoring. I am not on the schedule for lectoring until fall, but have helped with communion twice. 👍
