How often (if ever) do you visit the tabernacle and kneel in adoration?

Times as of late in my parish have shown to me that less and less people kneel before our tabernacles. Now I am not here to complain but to simply ask whether you yourself have done this recently? Have you, or do you kneel and adore?

It is very hard to do today. When I was in high school in New Orleans back in the late 60’s, I often could detour and go to Jesuit’s after school.

Today, one of the parishes here has an adoration chapel which I could go to prior to choir practice on Wednesdays

I grew up before Vatican II. The Brother’s of the Sacred Heart taught me from 8th grade to 12th. (1964-1969). The brother’s chapel was alway open. I spent a lot of lunch hours there.

I prayed before the Blessed Sacrament a lot more when I was younger. There was a church on almost every corner…Having been held up at gunpoint on the altar of a cathedral tends to put a big damper on things…

Oh how I wish that I could just pop in and make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament like I did when I was at teenager. It’s just not done today.

It’s really hard at my parish. People talk really loudly both before and after mass, and it is nearly impossible to have a moment of silence in the prescence of Our Lord. I mean they don’t even have adoration, I have to drive over to the next town where they only have it on Fridays, and only when I’m not working do I get a chance to go over there… and not to mention that they lock the churches up now for the larger part of the day.

My area is ridiculous. I thank God that I’m moving to PA next fall for college where there’s two perpetual adoration chapels, and cathedrals, not to mention a EF only church, and every single one of the Eastern Catholic churches for me to escape the OF with

Actually, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been to some beautiful OF’s, but in my area the music is oh-so distracting and people seem to have no respect for the sacrifice of the mass

But I guess to answer your question… almost never. Maybe 2 Fridays a month. There are simply no other options and it’s so hard sometimes

No! Good Lord, N0! I grew up in New Orleans and all of our churches were open to adoration. I am not making this up. I could (and did) go to the Brother’s chapel during lunch hour. After dismissal from high school, I could have opted to go to St. Louis Cathedral (which was way out of the way in the French Quarter) or to go to Jesuit’s (aka Immaculate Conception in downtown New Orleans) which was only a 3 block detour from my bus stop… I can’t speak for what goes on down in NO today but “visiting Our Lord” was a really big thing for us pre-Vatican II types.

And, yes, I was robbed on the altar. Most surreal to see someone pointing a gun at you with the crucifix above and behind him. I had $4 in my wallet. But that is another story.
You are a cathedral choir member in a downtown parish and you expect these things.

I really, really, miss not being able to drop in to visit the Blessed Sacrament. it is just not done these days. A sign of the times. Forty some odd years ago and any Catholic church was open. We didn’t need adoration chapels.

I think that that is profoundly sad.

Bless, do you really struggle to pray while there is noise in the back ground? I remember having to scrub all of the pews in my parish not very long ago, I had the help of a good woman who had recently joined our church. I remember attemting to complete my rosary in my mind as I was scrubbing along, it was vertually impossible, not because there was any noise but because the work was so demanding! I just could not focus at all, it was like saying the words without any meaning. I gave up and just got on with the job.

I think it may depend on where you live. I know near me there is a Church equal distance from my house and my job that’s open in the afternoon for people to spend time before the tabernacle. I like to pop in during my lunch break sometimes.

Peace my friend, I do believe you. How horrific to be robbed in a chapel! How horrific to have a gun pointed at you! This is just terrible and sad to hear. I often hear of churches being burglarised these days, but to be actually attacked in a church, just horrendous.

I often wonder though, do people realise that they may simply go up to the tabernacle before or after mass and have their own adoration time there?

The tabernacle at my cathedral is in a side chapel. Sadly, even at my cathedral, the noise level after Mass is not conducive to visiting the Blessed Sacrament. There is a large part of me that really misses visiting the Blessed Sacrament. Am I showing my age?

I visit an adoration chapel almost daily. I too grew up in New Orleans and still live in South Louisiana.There are many perpetual adoration chapels here. There are also some open during the daytime only. Of course all of the many churches are still wide open during the day.
On another thread here on The Forums todayis a that a poll done by MSNBC that ranks people from Louisiana as being the happiest in the nation. It was refreshing to me to see my home state ranked # 1 in something of a positive nature. South Louisiana is predominantly Catholic and having lived elsewhere on occaision I give a great deal of weight to our Catholicity as the reason for our good natured happinmess. After all we can visit the Creator of the universe, in the flesh, at our will.

I’m not sure I understand exactly what you mean. As in entering the Church just prior to Mass? I can’t kneel without a forklift to get me back up again.

I kneel before the holy tabernacle quite a lot.

I know that it seems odd to not see people there often. Perhaps this could be in part due to the fact that many churches are locked up after Mass?

(The tabernacle is in a chapel in back of our main church and the alter, but there are steps up to get into it. )

I try to kneel before the Tabernacle after every Mass… and after Confession

last year, I went to Vespers at a parish several times a week. My friends and I would always pray afterwards before the Tabernacle. It was really wonderful I miss that time so much.

I’d love to go and pray before the Tabernacle more often, but when I go to a church, it’s usually closed…lol… so I just talk to Jesus from outside for a bit and then go back

As a full-time Youth Minister… I started out going to our perpetual adoration chapel almost daily but as time went on…and on… I stopped going as often. Tomorrow is my last day as an employee before I head over to Franciscan University so I am looking forward to being able to go to adoration every day again.

Oh, I see—you mean Adoration? We have two parishes (at least) locally that offer Exposure at different times, and I’ve gone now and then.

If I have a pew and kneelers I can get down and up no problem.

There’s one that’s not so close by but it offers a 24-hour Adoration chapel.

As for simply going to sit in front of the Tabernacle, I am not certain if our local church buildings are open during non-Mass hours and if they are, what times.
