How often should we go to Confession?

I often heard priests say, we should frequent confession. So how often should we go to confession?

I use to go from monthly, then to every two weeks, now I been going every week. I made a typo on the poll. It should be written as weekly… LOL

I think monthly is a good rule of thumb; more often if you desire or need the extra graces that come from the Sacrament; immediately if you are aware of serious sin.

Good answer. Obviously, I think frequently is good, but that may mean different things to different people.

Probably at least twice as often as we ‘think’ we should. I know myself that I routinely think I’m at least twice as ‘nice’, or ‘good’, or “talented” than I REALLY am, so I probably need to pray, confess, do penance etc. at least twice as often as I think I should!

Realistically based on today’s society and habits whether from work or play I feel bi-monthly or monthly would be the norm unless of course you needed additional support.

how do you feel when you try to get away with not taking a shower if you really need one? same thing happens when we come up with excuses to avoid or postpone confession.

Every week is good. Try to go on Saturday evening or before Sunday Mass as preparation to recieve Communion.
