How old were you when you got married?

I was 30 and my wife was 28. We have been married 24 years and have 3 boys(23, 21, and 19). It has been an interesting ride so far.

My husband and I were both 22. We got engaged between our junior and senior years of college. We graduated on a Monday, and we got married that Friday.

We have been married for 15 years, and we have six lovely daughters.

We had nothing when we got married, apart from a lot of student loans. 😛

There have been difficult times in our lives, but I would not change anything. I am glad we got married when we did. I know that many people nowadays are marrying later, but I don’t necessarily think that is a good thing. I am sure it can be for some, but in general I think not. Especially if our friends are anything to go by!

But I was the oldest in my family to marry. My younger sister married at 20, and her husband was 24. My baby sister married at 19, and her husband was 24. They have been married for 14 and 11 years, respectively. Four children apiece.

My parents were teenagers, 16 and 19, when they married, and it wasn’t even a shotgun wedding. 😛 They have been married 35 years.

We had both just turned 21, had met in college at 17, and gotten engaged at 19. Our first baby was born before we turned 22, we had three by the time we were 25. We started out with absolutely nothing. It was wonderful and I wouldn’t change anything.
We were very blessed in that my husband’s income steadily increased. He works in IT and those were the golden years for that field.
We will be married 30 years this Christmas.

We are going to get married after few months, I’ll be 27 then and my future wife 24. We have already civilly married in January (where I was 26 and my wife 23).

We were both 24. We met in high school (band geeks) and were very good friends until we started dating in college.

My wife was 23 and I was 25… but we dated for six years… been married for 30… two chilllums, 19 yo son and 15 yo daughter… there but for the Grace of God…

🙂 It’s interesting to see so many couples got married in their late teens / early 20’s. One of my close friends got married at 22 and another at 23. The rest waited until late 20’s / early 30’s and the remainder are still single at 40 (me included)

I had a long discussion with my early-married friends; prompted by me saying that sometimes I felt I was still (:D) too immature for the commitment fo marriage and that I felt until recently, that I had nothing to bring to the table, in terms of job security, achievements, personal satisfaction etc.

They both said one of the most wonderful gifts that they have shared is growing up; finding their place in life and learning / making mistakes together 🙂 I love that idea!

I also think it is sensible to have a family early, when you have youthful energy on your side. Children remember quality time and kindness from their parents; not expensive gifts and holidays.

Having said that, I still feel that for me, personally, I needed the extra time to find my feet in the world and grow as a person, before inflicting myself on anyone else! For me, waiting til now and finding (I hope) Mr. Right at 40 has been one of the best experiences of my life and made better by the wait!

However, trying to live by the Chirch’s teaching all this time has been incredibly hard. Nobody can tell me it’s as easy to remain celibate before marriage if you marry at 19 as it is if you marry over 40

😉 I still wish sometimes that I’d met the man of my dreams at 19 and was living in a house full of children and life!

25 the first time; 34 the second.

With regard to the last post, most of the people I hung out with in my earlier years were musicians. Nearly all of them married late. Most were in their 30s, though some are now in their 40s and still not married.

I was 26 – Wife was 21…

I love Grandma’s story…

Great-grandma owned a boarding house… Grandma at age 9 is sitting at the breakfast table with her two brothers, she looks across the table and there sits a very handsome 21 year old man… Little Grandma whispers to her brothers “One of these days, I’m going to marry that man”

The man move out and goes to another town. He gets married to another woman, and in a few years she passes away… The man now moves back to the same boarding house… Grandma is now 16 and within a year the two are married.

Grandpa died at the age of 66… They had three children… My Dad and his two sisters. And 11 grandchildren, one of which is me.
Wow, that’s a sweet story! I wonder what Little Grandma’s daddy would have said if he’d heard her whisper that declaration to her brothers…

As for me…We were 32 when we finally married, civilly. We got properly married in the Church on our 10th anniversary. We’d both been around the block a few times when we got back together and he was offered a job out of state, or we might still be shacking up.

Thank God that we were able to have our 2 sons with no problems, even though I qualified as “advanced maternal age.”

It’s true that having kids past your 20’s is more of a physical challenge. I’d like to think I was a bit more patient and a little wiser, but that might be hubris. I would definitely say that I TREASURED my children in a way that young people might not, because I realized how fortunate I was to even have them. (I had contracepted since I was 15.)

I was 24 and my hubby was 25… we’d been dating for 4 years and are as crazy about each other today as the day we met 😃 I have to say I LOVE being married!!!

I was 29, DH was 29 as well. We met on CAF, while I was living in Washington and he was in Scotland. I moved to the UK to get married. We bounced around between the UK and USA, but we’ve finally settled back in the UK. 🙂

Both Dh and I were 23…

We will be married 24 years next month.

We’ve been married more than 1/2 our lives as of this year!!😛

I will be 26 years old and she will be 30 years old next 27th of October.
I know the question is in the past tense… but I cannot lie. 😛

God bless,
D

If it hadn’t been for Cotton-Eye Joe
I’d been married long time ago
Where did you come from, where did you go?
Where did you come from, Cotton-Eye Joe?

If it hadn’t been for Cotton-Eye Joe
I’d been married long time ago
Where did you come from, where did you go?
Where did you come from, Cotton-Eye Joe?

He came to town like a midwinter storm
He rode through the fields, so handsome and strong
His eyes was his tools and his smile was his gun
But all he had come for was having some fun

If it hadn’t been for Cotton-Eye Joe
I’d been married long time ago
Where did you come from, where did you go?

My husband and I got married on June 9, 2012. I was 22 and he was 24. Seems a little weird to be married this young. Not many of my friends are married, but the way I saw it was I was with the man I loved and who brought me into my faith and that wasn’t going to change, so let’s get our life started. We’re a few months in and I fall more in love with him everyday! 🙂

I was 23 and DH was 22. We are approaching our 4 year anniversary and expecting our 4th child. We’re only just starting to irritate each other. 😉
