That’s kind of where I am. I’m young and if I had to answer honestly right now I want to live forever because I’m really scared of death. I know that I don’t need to be, and I have faith, but that primal fear is very much present for me. (I also had very little exposure to death growing up.)
From what I understand, though, as I get older that will go away. My grandparents just reached their 80s. I am blessed that all four of them are still living and have good health. But they have begun speaking very, very openly about their deaths and the aftermath. They could have 20+ years left, but they want to make sure everything is organized and taken care of and that there aren’t fights over their stuff. It’s strange to hear them talk so calmly about it.
My grandma told me, “When you’re a child you don’t think you can die. When you’re young you realize you will and that scares you. But as you get older, it just becomes part of life. You know more people who do. You make plans for after you’re gone. And you accept it.”
I hope I can have her maturity about it if I (God willing) get to be her age. Because even though I want to experience heaven one day, there is a lot that is good about life on earth and I’d like to have a full life.
